If you look at the owner's manual (I know, sacrilege,) the two white covers on the bottom of the fine filter columns are clean-out ports for the filters. Looks like you can roll the whole assembly to an open place, then follow the instructions. Which also say clean them once a week. Hmmm...

The air filter will get clogged up the more you use and from how it look, it a pain to get it out hence the infrequent cleaning
@SomeGuyWhoClimbs
@SomeGuyWhoClimbs 2 ай бұрын
@@aberba The airfilters are actually designed to collect the dust. There are ports at the bottom of the unit that you apparently unplug and use the dust collector itself to pull vacuum on so that it gets redeposited into the bin. That obviously won't work though if the unit is just too clogged to run. I'm guessing Woby just didn't empty it frequently enough which led to this cluster, though would be good to know for sure. Was thinking of picking one of this up at some point...

Impressive it lasted this long without a cleanup, thanks for pushing it this far and showing us that worst case thorough deep clean scenario. Plus, I take it compared to most regular woodworker, your work has more glue & resin & maybe even some rubber particles in the dust due to those skateboards which could all contribute to stickier clumps. I guess one would just have to add a little 10 to 20 min attention to that machine in their workflow every week or so to be pretty fine with it for a full year.

Im assuming the 2 caps at the bottom of the filters are meant to be opened so when you "clean" those filters you can suck out whatever falls down? SO that in theory you wouldn't have to disassemble the entire thing like you did?

I had this same collector. At the beginning it was great. But once I attached a larger planer it became a nightmare. The small bin would fill before the larger bin where the sensor is and clog quickly. When reaching out to Harvey to see if there were any adjustments that could be made their customer service was poor and questions were never answered. Best day was when I got rid of it and went back to a cyclone.

No experience with the Harvey specifically, but with all cyclone separators if the bin fills up to the bottom of the cyclone it kinda stops working and dust starts bypassing the cyclone stages and goes straight into the filters. I've seen it happen on my huge Oneida. Wonder if that happened here. There should really not be that much dust packed in the cyclones and filters! As long as I don't let the bin completely fill up into the cyclone I've run for years without having to do anything aside from bang a thin film of fine dust off the inside of the filter every once in a while. Also any sort of air leak IME causes the cyclones to completely stop cycloning. Wonder if something is leaking in the airstream.

At least Ben was honest. A lot of others would have blamed the machine for their mistakes. Ben was probably slackin on emptying the bins and let it get a little outta hand. It happens. Are there other machines out there that are easier to clean? Sure... But it's also easy to just empty the bins... And for the dude that said, "Would you treat it better if you paid $3k for it?!" No. Probably not. Because he didn't abuse it. (Except when he banged the filter on the ground.) He just forgot to empty the bins.

Why is a machine this expensive not equipped with a dust filter clogging sensor? It should have been warning him it was starting to get clogged way before they got filled up. Harvey should also put the intake port on the short side, backside or the top and not the front. It's so stupid to have it go out at the front.

This guy TOTALLY ABUSED a great dust collector!!!!! It has a warning light to tell you when to empty the bags. There are several videos explaining how to clean the filters (Bents Woodworking and Next Level Carpenter) both show how to clean the filters so this doesn't happen. Using a single 4 inch collection hose on a 6 inch system is somewhat overkill for this unit. This unit is perfect for a shop that may need 2 ea 4 inch machines at the same time. DO NOT judge this unit by the abuse this guy did to a fine machine

@Tinkery
@Tinkery 2 ай бұрын
@@pepper7144 I hear you. I’ve seen the videos from Bents and Next Level and I agree that this is probably a great dust collector, just not for me. No matter how careful you are, filters are a wear item that eventually will need to be replaced. The way this machine is designed, that is a pain to do. Also, at some point, mistakes will usually happen as well. I have an older Delta dust collector with a cyclone separator and double canister filters from Wynn Environmental. I have accidentally allowed my collector to overfill when I forgot to check the bin. It was messy to clean, but everything was at least easy to access when cleaning it out. I’ve since added the dust sentry to the bin and have been better about checking the bin regularly…but I am human and assume that the first time won’t be the last time it ever happens. Watching this video made me realize that I don’t think the trade off here is worth it for me. As cool as this dust collector is, I don’t think I’m willing to give up easy access to wear items and ability to repair easily in exchange for a smaller footprint. At the price point of this machine, I don’t think the value is there for me. Still very cool, but not for me.
