I've made "Cargo Towers" a couple times on monthly wipe servers before that both worked and didn't get knocked down by cargo all month. I think the issue here was cargo was turning pretty sharply near the base so it's hitbox was wonky and varied. The best way to do it is find an underwater rock tower that cargo passes close to. This way you can build higher as well as save on mats. They're actually visible on the map as little white splotches in the water. I've never tried building a bridge all the way out. Just a tower in the water with some lockers, meds and kits ready so I'd F1 kill and spawn there when Cargo spawned.

Yes, done that as well, i also think the different Cargoships might have slight changes in size. But it's great fun to put loads of turrets just to see them light up the scientists hahaha. I made a video of it if anyone wants to see, but it gots no views so maybe hard to find, maybe search Fassbinder Cargobase..

From someone that has built both: 1) If your going to build a player jump on don’t waste time building the bridge out to the tower. Build a 2x3 at the jump point with a bay for a small boat. Saves on resources. 2) if your going to build a bridge then make it a car jump on, I like angling about 45 degrees instead of 90 degrees to the ship so you don’t jump over the ship. For fun use a camper with large motor and cab motor both for power and you can respawn in the camper on the ship and have a kit in the locker. Have fun with that.

the base was breaking because there is 2types of cargo , the military and normal one and they both have different hitboxes and it depends on your luck if base is going down or not.

Try to make a tall bridge in the same Lane as Cargo (1x1 "cheaper")...When Cargo destroy your cheap bridge, you will fall down to it 😉 Make sure to place a wall/with window, nobody can shoot you and you can observe what happening in Cargo before you land on it.

You could always make a car ramp and drive a car off a jump and land inside - if you do it with a camper... you have spawn points on the ship!

the most consistent way to jump onto cargo is with a car. you can cover the distance variation in cargo's path with car's momentum :)

Build a china wall at sea, but not in the path of cargo, build it as close as you can then add doors and bunch of turrets behind the doors, then open the doors as the cargo passes :)

Hell wood teas are just broken! Add chainsaw and 2 boxes of wood in 4 minutes depending on the travel time to find a forest..!

I'm pretty sure the cargo ship is an NPC with waypoints. Something along the way changes its trajectory slightly and that's why the base breaks randomly. Could be the floating barrels or underwater boats that it comes across that changes it, or even the spawn point. This is just speculation ofc.
