Here's the field notes written out: ● There are 4,608 frames of stop-motion in this video ●I now have all but the three oldest modulars - unfortunately they now cost £7-8k between them, so these 16 will probably be it for me, I can't complain ●To film the "Lego-magically-building-itself" shots, I have to first build the set off-camera, then take it apart a few bricks at a time and reverse the footage. So any sets that have been filmed in this way...are now destroyed, and being used for pieces ● I originally filmed Singapore to be part of the Lego travel series, but there wasn't enough footage so it seemed like the perfect ending to this instead ● Maisie still hasn't met Ralph and Bella - we're taking our time to ensure they're introduced responsibly. Don't worry, there'll be a video ● Who wants another Half-Asleep Chris video in 4 days?!
@peterjackoville427211 ай бұрын
Question: why does Chris have to build the sets first and then take them apart brick by brick? Why can't he just build the set brick by brick? Because it'll take a lot longer?
@brianmacdonald729711 ай бұрын
If you like detailed interiors, you're not missing anything by skipping the first three Modulars. Cafe Corner and Market Street have no interiors at all. The Greengrocer has a nice first floor, but the rest is mostly empty. There's a clever grandfather clock, radiator, and barbecue, but they're in big empty spaces.

I love Lego architecture, but the last few sets were too expensive, or too big for the space I have. I did endeavor to copy someone’s attempt at a Lego Space Needle, it’s not perfect, and it took me a while to figure out some bricks I’d never seen before (turns out they are Ninjago weapon holders, basically 3 sided plates with three sideways studs on the corners. It’s how the narrowest part of the “legs” are built.) I do wish they had the alternate/original colors for the top as the original paint job was very colorful (for the anniversary year I was visiting they repainted the “Astronaut Orange” on the roof.)

That's a great way to expense your holiday as a work expense. (That's what you did, right?) Good job! On a side note: there are tons of manuals that have been digitized, so if you only care about building/displaying those three old modular sets versus having the boxes, you can most likely just order all the loose components using the manifest in those booklets, and build them that way. Usually it won't be a cheap solution, but given how much these sets cost, it is probably a steal. The only issue would be rare or outright set-specific pieces, since those would probably be immensely expensive in their own right.
