CONGRADULATIONS! You have created what my people call, "A Hermit's Cave" or shelter. It starts with a huge sandstone boulder. You then build a fire to dehydrate a portion of the rock making it very brittle and easy to dig. My people prefer to build it into a large cliff face a few yards up off the wilderness floor for protection and vantage point. If possible, we use clay as mortar for the rock wall. The opening to the cave should be smaller than the inside of the cave to help retain heat and make the cave more defensible. We use fresh hard rock and clay to build the from of the cave to the appropriate size. Tolls needed: long and short handle pickaxe, rock-bar, good size hammer up to a baby-sledge, round and square head shovels. We chisel climbing steps in the rock for easy access to our cave. We cook outside the cave to prevent softening of the inner walls. The height of the inner cave should be such as to accommodate standing up. The depth of the inner cave should be such as to retain warmth. We purposely strategically locate our cave systems in locations to be reused annually as we travel about hunting. We mark ownership of our cave systems with cave drawings on the inner wall telling our story. When not in use, we normally seal the entrance of our cave system to hide it from predators and enemies marking the cave location with some type of sign.

This video is also a great example as to why one should never build a fire under an outcrop of rock. It may seem logical to keep your fire covered, and the heat trapped is great, but it can also crack off a giant piece of rock in the night that will squash you in your sleep

@@clayton9136 Hehe, the danger is probably overblown, buuuut it sounds like something that would happen to me... actually, come to think about it, in my teenage years my family visited the Wisconsin Dells. There are steep, narrow canyons you can hike through there. It had rained the day before and as I walked I heard a noise above me. A rock the size of my head was skipping along the canyon wall heading directly for me. I jetted the hell out of the way, dragging my dog behind me. It scared the hell out of me and I didn't stop running until I reached the other end of the canyon (only to realize I had to go back through the canyon to get back to the boat). Not the same situation but... yeah, there's always that one chance.

I have a small (very small) boulder field behind my house and a few dozen acres around it. Wouldn't exactly be legal, but i kinda wanna try this. Now that Spring is here, it would probably be a good time to try. Everything's wet enough to keep the risk of fire spreading to a minimum. It's heavily wooded, but with enough prep and caution it's certainly do-able.

I can’t find anything on this homie. He’s truly shining a new light in the bushcraft world by showcasing those skills in an chaparral/desert climate. I grew up in southwest AZ and so many of his videos bring me back to being a kid exploring the world out there. Are your projects around the Sonoran Desert or a climate similar to that?

His profile sez he's in the USA but i'm a bit sceptical of that for a lot of reasons - the vegetation, his general look, that adze/hammer thing, those old-school sheep-guarding dogs with proper old-school spiked collars. Could easily be wrong though. My initial guess based on the landscape was Greece but I'm now more inclined to suspect he's in Albania or N Macedonia or similar. Or maybe even Turkey/Azerbaijan/Georgia/Armenia kind of area.

@@tommarshall5566 My best guess would be Türkiye as the name of the channel is Mr. Sulo (Sulo - Sülo is the short version of Süleyman which is a common name in Türkiye) secondly he uses adze (also called "keser" in Turkish" it is very common tool for this kind of stuff) and the dogs look like Kangal which is an endemic breed for Türkiye. Lastly the mountain type and abundance of oak trees lead me to think about Eastern Türkiye.

@@muratcantonc870 interesting; your theory certainly seems plausible. The adze/keser looks a very useful tool actually; similar benefits to a mattock but obviously far lighter and easier to swing. I might see if I can get hold of one. I need to remember to call it Türkiye and not Turkey; force of habit.
