During the lockdown, I have been building budget home tasks PCs (Web Browsing, Office and Movie/Music Player) for members of my family (total of 7), different budgets but the max was about 400 USD, lower was 107 USD, I feel everything related to PC parts is way too high right now even used parts cost only 30% less compared to new ones, at least that's how the market is over here in Colombia, but anyway I enjoy it a lot, thanks for sharing great ideas and experiences, it helps a lot, for instance, for one of the lower budgets builds I considered using a Xeon processor (LGA 775) instead of core 2 duo or core quad, which totally saved the budget and provided better performance and I got that idea from this channel, cheers!

I was given an old AMD FM1 Lenovo desktop years and years ago. I was surprised how good it was to work with. The case is perfect standard MATX and it takes to any amount of tinkering without any secure boot problems. I took out the original 230W PSU, 2x2gb DDR3-1333 kit, single core Sempron, Nvidia 8600 GS, and 160gb WD Blue HDD and replaced it with an EVGA 430W, 2x4gb DDR3-1600, Athlon II X4 651, GTX 750 ti, and a 240gb SSD. All the replacement parts I got on bid on Ebay for very low price. Turned the lowest of the low office PC into a mini banger, it's in daily operation as a media center PC. I did that big upgrade in like 2016 and it's still going and still surprisingly capable. Can really get a lot of fun and value out of playing with old prebuilts.

try to find a g4560 combo. they are really underrated especially with the kaby lake ipc and slow ddr4 is cheaper than ddr3 (or at least in mexico)

PC TechTips only problem with the g4560 is it has no release value as it’s a smelly pentium to consumers. I find g4560s for around £35 ish, but i5 6400s can be found for £50is if you look hard enough and I think it’s worth the waiting

On that lenovo board you can get up to a 1060 or 1050ti to work. I have one of these boards in my house and sadly it died on me after 2 whole years of power outages and inconsistent voltages after hurricanes María and Irma 😅. Yes getting 2 sticks of ram to work on this board is a massive pain but it does work after a lot of trial and error. Not consistently though. I've had up to 4 of them before.

Yes perfectly fine since you've got a strong cpu and the vega graphics are pretty decent. You should run it comfortably.

sucks about not being able to use the 645 GTX, i had one as a make-do card when my 660 ti died.i was not disappointed - its a cut down 660 gtx (less cudas, half the ram but still gddr5, and a binned memory bus speed, variant of the same gpu i used the wiki chart to verify), has Vulkan (i got Wolfenstein II and Doom 2016 running on it, albeit at 720p but with medium/high), and can overclock a fair tick.it actually beats that 650 (not based on the 660 and has considerably less cores), if its a 1gb model.

Did you try pulling the cpu out and checking the pins? I had an old oem that I picked up and only 2 slots were working. The pins seemed pretty flat, so i picked up the ones for mem channels a bit and they all came back online.

Ohh, that doesn't look good tbh with the drives taped to the side of the PSU with no room for airflow.. Heat and drives, or even tape isn't usually good together. Tape could loose its grip, dropping the drives, and the drives could get hot enough to make them go bad quick..
