Super neat and love that you included limitations as part of the discussion :)

Fun project! Your assembly transitions remind me of This Old Tony too. Also surprised to hear you're already married at 18!

Thanks very much! I'm flattered by any comparison to ToT. Coming up on 15 years of marriage this October!

This is cool. I bet there is probably a way to create a precision 3d measuring tool with this type of setup.

Yeah, it's cool, buddy! Me, I'm not into POV, my expertise is lying mostly in C/C++ / Python, math, but watching your experiments it's a pleasure! Good luck in your research!

My initial experiments were using glow in the dark paint and a UV laser, and I can confirm it's very cool!

Hey, I've been working on my projector for the last year, currently rebuilding mine to use a series of prisms to join red green and blue lasers to make rgb animations, if you need help with any future improvements I can help.

Very cool. RGB would be high on my list of improvements if I picked this project back up. I'd love to see what you come up with!

How about using 2 coils to create electromagnets moving a lightweight mirror. One creating a rotation on the x axis and the other on the y axis. It would need software calibration, but should be dirt cheap. What do you think?

Sounds feasible!

Thinking of switching to ILDA or an ILDA over network input?
@paulstraw
@paulstraw Жыл бұрын
That'd definitely be a more professional way to do it. Maybe I'll play with ILDAs in the future, sounds fun. Thanks for watching! 🤘

What was wrong with the geared assembly, exactly? You say that it was over engineered but you don't list any specific problems with it.
@paulstraw
@paulstraw Жыл бұрын
Good question! It offered basically no advantages over direct drive from the motors. All it did was introduce complexity: More (and more complex) prints, additional parts, more backlash, more noise.

@@paulstraw No improvement to resolution or RPM, then? What was your ratio?
@paulstraw
@paulstraw Жыл бұрын
@@claws61821 I don't recall the specifics, unfortunately. I didn't document those tests well, and they were several years ago. I'm sure with more printer calibration, better gear design, etc, you could get a better result! It just didn't seem worthwhile to optimize something I knew was a dead end.

@@paulstraw Fair enough. Have you considered using the galvos to drive a pan and tilt gimbal or a 2-axis compliant flexure with a single mirror? That seems to be the process in vogue for rasterizers lately...
@paulstraw
@paulstraw Жыл бұрын
@@claws61821 I hadn't, but both sound like very interesting options! I'll have to do some digging on those, thanks.
