I totally recommend you use the farmer's delight mod's knife whenever you butcher the cows for leather, it guarantees that you get the leather every time along with the beef, and if you get looting on it, you get a LOT.

You also get ham from pigs to make one of the best dishes in the mod, honey glazed ham, it looks great when placed down and you can pick 4 servings with bowls which restore insane amounts of hunger and keep you fed for a long time.
