OMG! When you wove that pointed wattle door I was so excited! I suddenly knew for the first time why that pointed top shape became the classic that it was. I always thought it was so impractical before, when I would see it carved in stone on churches etc. But now I realize it could have just become part of the culture because it was very practical at first, and even if it wasn't practical later it was still beautiful.
@gesithasgewissa11 күн бұрын
Exactly! Beauty was much more admired than today in most architecture, I feel. There was also another benefit to having a pointed door, as it was a smaller opening with the same height, meaning it may have let out slightly less heat.

I have pretty bad tinnitus that makes it hard to get to sleep unless I have something in the background. For months now, the original series has been my go-to. Something about the sound of the work and nature is quite relaxing for me, and the duration is long enough that I'm soundly asleep before it all goes silent and my tinnitus bothers me.

There are numerous natural cordage plants in the UK from pine roots to, nettle stems and roots to bramble stems all extremely strong but not necessarily long lasting but all had their uses by our ancestors. So much bushcraft knowledge has been lost over time with little need to use it because technology took over from these natural uses. But none of us knows what the future holds, from wars to volcanic disasters and could one day be the lifeline of humanity again for some to have this knowledge that then can be spread and expanded on. Its the in thing at the moment but future generations need to be taught some of this so that humans can survive what ever catastrophe arises .

I've enjoyed watching all of these. Recently I made a cape for a friend and used old "Army" blankets. All very good wool. Very warm and made pants with some of it too. It has an inner hood made to fit close to the head and the outer hood is loose and lays over the shoulders like a capelet when not in use. You can make the ties with just strips of wool you have left in scraps. My friend wanted me to line it for comfort since the wool is scratchy in places he says. I used some natural colored Osnaburg. It use to be made with flax, but mine isn't. Flannel would be warm too. Just wanted to share this with you thought you may like to use it. You can find these old blankets in Military Surplus stores. I just cut a circle and use half of it for the cape. Ties down the front. I made my own pattern. Anyway, Loved your videos today and looking forward to more. Stay warm!

A lot of these segments start with a pile of logs you've already felled and at least partially stripped. Like the two main supports you had to dig the pits for, really long and straight and with a Y-fork at the top, how long did it take you wandering in the woods looking up to identify two smallish trees that met those criteria?

I was wondering if pit houses suffer from water infiltration into the pit or flooding, or is the roof overhand so wide that the water never gets to the pit? Thanks and we love you

They can do - I did actually have to raise the floor as I had the groundwater levels rise in winter - they were usually built on gravel or sand soils, but i am on clay so I should have taken that into account haha! I'm hoping to release a video explaining the that aspect soon.

The tools that you own are as important as your knowledge of what you’re about to use and the best results with what nature has given you to work with… I kept thinking as I watched you twisting the sticks into fibers was… blister… blisters… more blisters… callases must have been welcome, finally…! 😬

Id love to be able to go on a vacation where I do this stuff, unfortunately I'm disabled and would have a very difficult time doing it, I've also got no land and no where near enough money to get any etc... Maybe one day.

Ah that must be tough for you! I'm not sure where you are but here in Britain we have open air museums like Butser Ancient Farm and Avalon Marshes, which have open days and events ☺

This is amazing. It is wonderful that you practice this art. What was that white mass that you used to paint the inside made of?

Thank you! It is slaked lime, with water added to make lime wash.
