It needed so many different blocks because the code has antialiasing. What do I mean? Between 2 big pixels, the color blends. If the transition was harsh you could have saved so much time and it'd look a million times better.

the QR would probably be more consistently functional (when it did work) if it were only black and white, not containing any gray. QR codes don't contain any gray at all, as the black and white pixels (each square is one pixel) represent bits of actual data - that's literally just how they work - so of course building one in MC would work, as a QR scanner only cares about seeing the black and white pixels and interpreting them. Other fun facts about QR codes: - The design of QR codes comes with LOTS of error correction built into it - each individual code can set the error correction as high or low as the user wants it to be when it is generated (more error correction makes the data bigger as it is basically adding redundancy so that missing data can be inferred accurately or just pulled elsewhere in the code) - with a high enough setting you can be missing about a third of the whole code, either due to damage or obstruction, and it will scan perfectly anyway! This is how sites like Snapchat make their profile QR codes work. The person making the code can also set error correction to be totally turned off if the data stored in the code would take up more space than a code can handle. - the biggest QR codes can store a few kilobytes of data. This is enough to store something like an image, or even, if you really wanted to, a really tiny game! I recommend looking at MattKC's "can you fit a game into a QR code" video, he goes pretty in depth into the details of QRs and even made a working QR code that can be scanned on a Windows device to load up a game of Snake! :D
