In this video, I will build a stone-cum-wood survival bushcraft shelter in the forest. It took me a while to find out the location where I was to build it. The location was great as there were tall trees, running water, plenty of wood for fire, and moreover, stones to build the hut. I set up my camp among the trees and started planning how to carry out my project.
There was a seasonal creek a short distance away. It had brought down boulders due to flash floods and scattered it along its course. However, the boulders were worn smooth and eroded, and it didn't work the way I expected. The soil was alluvial and lacked adhesiveness. Luckily, there were cut out logs not far off; I made my mind to make use of them in the hut to minimize the use of stones. I rolled down as much as I could and erected them in the walls.
The biggest challenge was collecting the stones from the creek and nearby places. It took me several days to collect enough to start building the hut. More work will be done in the next video.

This construction is not of a shelter, not of a hut, not of a cabin or not of a house. It’s more like a fortress in the middle of Black Forest 😊😊😊

Thanks for watching. Sure, I won’t abandon the project in the middle. There were heavy snowfalls which disrupted my work. You will watch that in the next video. I will return as soon as the weather permits and complete it. Yes, the location is serene and one can feel so much close to the nature.

To be honest, hand digging the foundation was a bit difficult as the outer layer of the soil was frozen due to frost and freezing temperature. However, I lit a fire close by and carried out the digging eventually. More to come.

I think he most likely used a fulcrum and a lever and then just used various rocks etc to place it underneath the lifted side or something like that to raise the log to an upright position, but I would like to see his method for raising it by oneself just to learn. I truly enjoy what I have seen so far, as I am a carpenter of 25 + years and have done many projects both commercial and residential, but I have never had the opportunity to build a log structure, the closest I have come was one restaurant in Texas that was called the Alpine or something like that I don’t remember but I was only able to work on it for a couple days and then we had to start another project out of state which was disappointing. But I like what he has done so far and I will be watch for the next phase 😊

What makes builds like this impressive is that they are solo. Where even a team of two is involved determination and morale is much harder than when solo. So building demands a different mindset. I’m not sure quite what but it is but it certainly requires mental resilience and stamina

I have watched several videos where the person built a stone shelter. This is the first one I've seen, in quite a long time where the "stone work" was done correctly. 99% of all the others were done totally wrong and will fail, if not already. NOT THIS TIME. Great work so far. I would use a bit skinnier logs, that's OK, it is your build, not mine. I will be looking forward to seeing more. ;-)

@@anschetaylor9215 just because people go there doesn't mean it's spoiled. It's probably his land to begin with. It's okay to build a shelter on your own land. I mean you're not going to go there so how would you know? At least somebody is doing something productive. What do you do? Brake windows and set other people's businesses on fire? yeah that's good for the environment. I know a guy like you who didn't like a company putting a pipeline in and they went out and bought a bunch of motor oil into a creek to try to blame it on them. The hilarious part is horizontal drill rigs do not use oil to do the drilling. They use drill mud made out of volcanic ash. So when he called the authorities to come look at the damage it was obvious he had done it and you could even see where he spilled it on the banks and there was a drip all the way to his property. Apparently he had changed the oil on his vehicles and even his riding lawn mower just to have a bunch of oil to contaminate the river with. He got a lot of trouble with that. So maybe you should try it and join him
