Was the video and audio shitty? Yup. But Casey was spot on: It has character and uniqueness, which was perfect for this video! Great job, love the creative solution!

Reminds me of the barefoot genius George Greenough. He strapped a homebrew camera rig on his back , and went kneeboarding at Rincon (1969). The movie Innermost Limits of Pure Fun was /is a surf classic, and spawned Crystal Voyager. Pink Floyd liked Pure Fun so much they provided the soundtrack for Voyager.

Cool concept and great vid. My inner skate rat is internally screaming though because this looks like the classic rookie mistake for any skate filmer who got a new camera with a fisheye: leaving image stabilization on. I’m not sure if Dan did this on purpose, or if it just looks like it’s on because the camera was bouncing around inside the pipe, but usually skate filmers would turn image stabilization off to avoid the fisheye vignette constantly moving around. But hey, I’m not the expert filmmaker and the footage still looks pretty good and lively (especially for a super cheap diy rig!)

This process reminded me of producing an 8mm film video in the seventies with children in P.T. Barnum housing in Bridgeport, CT. It was a monster film. I wanted as many children as possible to fit in a stairwell and exit that stairwell en masse screaming and frightened for their lives. I needed a dolly to move and allow the camera to be higher than most people. I found an old baby carriage (great suspension) and a step ladder. I affixed the ladder to the Baby buggy with wrapped wire and clamps. The camera was to be handheld about 8 feet high. Other children had to pull the Baby buggy slightly slower than the children ran. It turned out fantastic!

Love it. Many years ago I asked a photographer 'what's the best camera for capturing news photos?' He said: 'Whatever camera you have on you at the time". It's not the rig that matters - it's getting the shot by whatever means possible. Absolutely loved this. $17 and a foot of drainpipe and it tells a great, engaging, visual story. Awesome stuff.

No 50,000 dollar camera can do as good as that cheap camera and pvc tube did. That was classic videography with a nostalgic feel to it. Priceless! Remember the surf films of the 60's you and Casey should make a short movie, and you can't spend more than 200 dollars making it. 200 dollar budget make a surf movie with girls and beach party.
