I Built Dave’s ST-70 Tube Amp & Now Have to Leave The Country! To Russia For Tubes?

Dave from My Own Devices screwed up and accidentally ordered the kit version of a Dynaco ST-70 tube amp. He wasn’t up for building it himself, so he sent it to me to do the job. It's all built, but there's one problem and when Dave finds out, he's gonna be pissed. So now I've gotta leave the country!

I am listening to your video through my 1959 Knight-Kit amp running with four NOS 6Ф3П (ECL82) soviet tubes and a more recent EZ61 rectifier tube from EH, also from Russia. Aside from the only European tubes from JJ, they are my favorites. Спасибо! 😀

I have a solid state rectifier in mine. Does that diminish the sound quality of the amp?

No, if anything it’ll ensure that the amp is getting a good supply of DC. Something that challenges tube rectifiers.

The original birthplace of Tung-Sol tubes was Newark NJ. Now it’s Russia…. Most all new tubes available today are from one parent US company called new sensor located in LI City NY.

Sorry, but Tung-Sol was located in Bloomfield, NJ, USA. The name was sold in the 1990s.

Another option would be to get one of those flux capacitors from Antique Electronic Supply or another supplier & borrow Dr. Brown’s Delorean to go back to the late 1940s & hit “radio row” in Manhattan. You could leave the passport at home & never go through customs!

Thanks, Neil. I appreciate the concern. Things are well, but due to some changes in my life I’ve relocated to Turkey for a while. I plan to explain more at some later date, and to also continue with the videos. But it may be a while before I return to the states and can do so. Take care.
