I love everything interior design. One day I hope to do it professionally. Pretty simple really, stick with three colors, keeping in mind the color of surface areas such as walls and the floor and appliances . White walls always work, never cream, its a depressing color. I prefer you Incorporate wood and black accents and a color to pop, and only to pop not to overwhelm. Always have a kitchen island if you can even if its just a custom wooden piece. invest in a good cooker and a hood. Couch, coffee table, carpet to define the space and a custom entertainment unit not these 'eastleigh' stuff. Carpet in the bedroom is a must. Finally take advantage of the cheap kenyan made stuff we have here like Makuti and Clay pieces. Why spend all that money to build a house and then just rush through the interior deco. Its sad
@mannonKG
@mannonKG Жыл бұрын
Also exterior design is as important, if not more. Best practice is to have different textures, even if its stone, you can use different textures such as tile, polished, cement/plaster and of course wood. Stoop hiring silly welders who make these bad very bad window panes. Paint the bloody panes preferably black or white and don't allow spots to be appearing, it should be smooth and polished. If it's a safe area allow as much light in as possible. The focal point should always be the entrance and of course the door, again a good welder will help you with this, though I prefer wooden doors where possible, you could also use two doors for security so that the outer door is purely decorative preferably wood. Always use plaaants and good pots, there are many here. Define walking spaces leading to entrance, parking and a garden area. Lighting is also key for exterior but don't overdo. Its not a theme park. I'd advise lighting the main gate and the house entrance and just a few decorative/security lights. Seating helps alot to fill empty spaces. If possible always add an outdoor kitchen even if its just a grill. Not these nyama choma ones but one that looks Abit more professional

I just bumped into this video today and so happy that i did. The thing is i want to buy land somewhere outside Nairobi but i don't have enough funds. I have been day dreaming or fantasizing if you want that i already have the land and about to build but i have been debating whether to build a stone house or a container house. So yesterday i started watching videos of container homes in Kenya and beyond. I guess that's why/how this particular video got suggested on my youtube. Anywhoo, i love your house. It is simple, beautiful and well made. Your mabati walls actually looks like a container wall and it has given me ideas on what to build incase i won't have enough funds. I think nitakutafuta for consultation and ideas when i buy land and ready to build. That was good timing for me to see this video and to get ideas in future. Well done for building such a lovely house

You did a great job, but granite is cost effective in Kenya. My home is Bunyore, and the Maragoli Batholith is all Granite. My uncle has massive granite stones outside his home. People want granite off their land so they can farm, there is so much granite there. Even in Kisumu on the road to my "home", you see massive gtanite Rocks everywhere.

Regarding your outdoor seating; I think it's a common thing in Africa that most carpenters are classified as artisans. But carpentry is actually much bigger than we think. Carpentry, indeed, is a far-reaching art that extends beyond simple execution. It involves intricate design, careful planning, and meticulous execution. This, I believe, is an area that seemed underdeveloped in your outdoor seating arrangement. I venture to say your carpenter, while undoubtedly skilled in the craft, may not be as proficient or experienced in the design aspect. Providing more than a sample image of your vision would likely have guided the design and execution to better meet your expectations. In fact, specifics such as measurements, desired materials, or certain stylistic touches could enhance the outcome tremendously. Drawing from my experiences here in Nigeria, this approach often results in more refined, personalized creations that truly reflect the homeowner's vision and aesthetics. After all, the beauty of custom carpentry lies in its potential for unique, tailored solutions. This is something worth investing in for future projects.
