Today it is almost impossible to dream like this. City or County is shutting you down. Neighbors complain of 'junk' collected. But I speak from growing up in California in the Los Angeles unincorporated suburbs in the 50s and 60s as the towns became incorporated cities. My father built our homes to house a family of 8 while working full time. Once the city became incorporated my father was always hassled by the city.

I love it. Such a beautiful story. I would love to know what their children think and their feelings about growing up there with the constant construction. Also would like to know what they plan on doing with the castle and activities with the community of Millbrook after their parents are no longer with them? Such beautiful people!!!

Oddly I ended up here randomly. I am a fan of the Milkbrook Halcyon Hall ( Now Demolished ) but I have rebuilt that thing in several programs... several times.~

What an accomplishment. Yet, Peter doesn't seem happy somehow.

I am used to the European castles, so it seems to be pretty small, but interesting I guess, lol. But with all that stuff inside, it must be a nightmare to clean. The landscape is amazing, very beautiful surroundings

Popular KZbinr Andrew Camarata's Castle is a similar concept albeit less impressive than this, and it's in the area too. Not sure there are tours allowed as it's fairly remote.

Unfortunately, you couldn't likely do something like this today. Now you'll have the local jurisdictions all looking for their piece of the pie as well as code inspectors that may be rubbing elbows with local trades unions. Every one of them is going to bleed you to death and come up with a bunch of nonsense to impede you and force you to pay someone else - thereby putting the price out of range. Not all inspectors are like this. Some will work with you to some degree, but the codes have gotten out of hand. Do we need codes? Maybe, but they become increasingly restrictive every year. I think it would be better to have knowledgeable inspectors that understand the engineering. I'd feel better about living in this place than the current crop of disgusting looking McMansions that look like plastic boxes.
