I thought of Tom Tom the moment LT said that he will never adopt Matt's philosophy. I miss Tom Tom and his attention to detail and precision. But I also admire what Matt gets done by being just barely precise enough. Sometimes that attitude backfires but more often than not it seems to work (good enough).

LT is awesome and this was a great video! My opinion: Leave the Morvair the way it is. More power = more problems. You'll also run out of fuel faster. You'll start breaking things that you didn't think can break. I say do what LT suggests, but on a Morvair 2.0. Right now the Morvair is working just fine and making you money. You'll be risking that and honestly, at this stage in your life, you can do without the extra stress. Experiment on another one, and if you like it you could put it in the old one. Peace.

Not about the recoveries making money anymore. It's merchandising and such. Like Katelyn said, they are seldom even there anymore. Just to shoot some vids and work on projects a bit. It's inevitable for change to come with fame and fortune. Big garage, bigger better engines. More toys. Essentially my fantasies. BUT money is why the others, that helped build the channel, are gone. More family is good however. "Can't please everyone, so, just gotta please yourself"..... Ricky Nelson. 'Garden Party'. Your advice is good tho.

I go over to LT's channel often, and I know he does clean precision work. One of the requirements set on myself in order for me to be informed/entertained. I'm not anyone with that level of expertice, but put together/helped design a few 4 & 6 cylinder engines with too much uumph in them, breaking axles, destroying drive shafts, etc. untiĺ we couldn't afford it anymore (my fav was the slant 6). The Morvair, in my opinion (that's what you asked for, right?), could use a little boost, but going 6.0 is asking for trouble. You might start finding stress in places the current setup handles just fine. However, I see that you and LT are both power nuts and love beef. Still and all, I wouldn't go for more than 5.0 and that might still flip ya over backwards!

As much as I like the idea of the Morrvair getting a huge upgrade to the engine, I lean towards the idea of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". No, the Morrvair doesn't need morr power (right now), if anything, it just needs a couple morr winches. It is healthy and reliable currently, and already sounds like a performance vehicle. The Morrvair is probably the best all-rounder you have in the fleet. Save the engine upgrade for if/when the Morrvair is hurt and requires morr than superficial engine repairs. The 6x6 sounds amazing, and with a bit of exhaust work to tame those wild decibels, she'll turn heads wherever she goes.

as the street rodders say, horse power gets you top end(speed), torque gets you from stop light to stop light. as a recovery vehicle, torque is what the morrevair needs. any engine updates need to keep that first and foremost. but, like others are saying, if it ain't broke...aww, you know the thing.

Matt I love all of these adventure you bring us on, the joy of the whole crew is just infectious. On the Morvair power situation, I vote a mild NA 6.0 engine. the way I see it, the center of your operation is actual recoveries, and everything else is there to support that operation. The vehicles you have built to that end perform those tasks beautifully and Nobody has said that what is needed is more power. Adding a supercharger brings in the need to re-engineer a whole lot of the systems already working great. Some of the other recovery shows I see have morphed into mega power hot rods and have been terribly unreliable. Keep what you are doing centered and most importantly keep showing up when people need you.

LT is a hoot and Katelynn's laugh and smile is infectious. 😀As for the motor swap on the Morvair, I'd vote to keep it as-is (ain't broke don't fix it) and instead have LT build you a supercharged LS for a new project...something like a scaled-down wrecker on a pickup truck chassis. It seems having a second rig in the fleet with a boom and a few winches could be a useful thing. It could be used standalone on smaller jobs or supplement the big wrecker on the more technical/severe stuff.

the problem you're talking about with your dial indicator is a well known problem for machinists and engineers called the cosine error. However, you can be 10 degrees off "dead on" straight and the measurement error will be 1.5% which is not that terrible if you're "just" measuring diff backlash. If you really want to be very precise about it you can calculate a compensation factor en correct for it. Personally for your application, I wouldn't bother.

Firstly, the Spud Truck is unbelievable - love everything about it. Secondly, no, the Morrvair does not need more HP. It seems to work nicely the way it is and sticking a silly amount of HP in it just means you're likely to break things and wear stuff out more quickly.

I'd like to see the motor upgraded to the point where MORR had a similar enough package in each vehicle that they could keep spare parts and a spare motor around at all times. The more standardization on the fleet, the easier it will be to maintain.

The MORRvair Has proven itself to be very capable & well balanced... as Fun as putting a Supercharger on it sounds... It might help at the high elevations where air is thin... but for normal use... I'd just go with a Fresh rebuild & some mild upgrades.... Being able to be SMOOTH & controlled with throttle response when crawling up, over, around obsiticals... having Too much raw power... that's what breaks things...you've got alot of leverage with those big tires & lots of grip and Breaking things when you're out in the middle of nowhere, where most vehicles struggle to get to or to rescue you...no thanks.. I'd build a Fresh motor that doesn't have well over 200,000 miles already on it... It definitely still sounds good, but it's tired... Fresh rebuilt naturally aspirated...

I think Rhett hit the nail on the head regarding more power. Busted axles, U-joints etc. Though I guess you could break things, beef them up, break 'em again, and then beef 'em up more until you had it solid. I think more power would end up being a detrimental addition. Besides breaking stuff, you would run out of fuel more often. Besides, it sounds like a band of angels playing trumpets as it is! Spud truck is complete badassery.

I mean, honestly Im proud of Matt, getting 165HP out of the MoRRvair was an accomplishment. I've have not actually seen such small HP numbers come from a V8 since the 80s. Come on, 6.0L, very mild cam, super charged, actual good exhaust. Magnaflow, will make it sound deep and good vs sounding like a tired truck.
