Yeah, this is a lot worse (in terms of driving difficulty) than my rear-engine FWD car. I had about half the horsepower, and my car was from 1998, not 1985. I drove it up Pike’s Peak, and it was remarkably manageable, if incredibly slow.

The one trick a car with an RF layout (as opposed to the FR being uber common) can do that other cars can't is doing a burnout using the handbrake to stay in one place, since if you turn the wheels the car could potentially rotate on the spot if you pull the handbrake with the right timing XD

I think the rear downforce actually harmed performance because it uses the rear wheels as a pivot and destabilizes the front at high speed.

Technically the scoop on the hood wouldn’t be far off, they would’ve used it for natural air, the French used to have some amazing cabin airflow designs in their vehicles that would pull fresh air from the outside and great quality too with no need for a/c

I like to imagine the base- and mid-trim models of this car were front engined and did...sub-optimal but weren't a total failure. But for the top of the line version they went crazy. Inspired by the Renault 5 rally car and porsche's strong name, they made this...and failed.

Don't know why but the car kinda reminds of the Citroën Xantia, it has kinda advanced technology for its time, like adjustable pneumatic suspensions but it looks ugly. The only way this layout would be practical at all, would be a mid-rear longitudinal mounted engine, fwd. Hold on, there's some logic to it. So it's a sedan right? so there is a back seat then the trunk. The dead space underneath the rear seats would be **just** enough space for a boxer engine. Or... an inline engine. The inline 4cyl tilted 90 degrees, geared to a transmission on the opposite side, driveshaft goes to the front differential. You would have two trunks. Normally you would put the gas tank under the rear seats, but there's an engine there. So you the gas tank between the front seats on top of the driveshaft tunnel. The center console would be suspiciously long with oddly shallow storage space... but I think it would work. It would be very safe in a crash.

Hey, I've seen quite a couple of those swaps. My advice is: reinforce EVERYTHING, i've seen chassis break because of too much HP and torque. Lower the car, make it stiffer and put bigger wheels to increase grip. You probably would want to change the steering rack as it may not be precise enough to handle that power in corners.

@@Davix-tt9sh hi Thanks for the constructive answer! Indeed if I'm doing so, I'll first add strut bars everywhere I can and probably reinforce my rollcage to make it one with the chassis. With some welding beneath the car, I hope it will manage the torsion of the acceleration. For the wheels, I'll certainly go for semi slicks or maybe even full slicks tyres in case of dry weather. This should help a lot. About the steering rack, what should I do? Any advices? Thanks a lot

Mid engine rear wheel drive is so rare in cars the only car I could think of that uses this layout is the fortune, which is basically a knock-off dellorean, from flatout 2 not even a real car lol.

Mid engine RWD (MR) are common. Did you mean MF (mid-engine FWD)? There are some classic cars that use this layout, albeit it is FRONT-MID engine instead of REAR-MID engine. And currently I tried to mod Vauxhall VX220 from MR to MF layout in NFS Hot Pursuit 2. Its acceleration become the worst in-game but somehow due to its engine physics, it has highest top speed in its class.

I own 91 vw golf mk2. I ran a LS 6.0 in the hatch. Ford Mustang World Class t5 with a Chevy bellhousing and drive reverse shifter. First gear is on rightside (backward) and remote shifter (1 to 5 reverse). Fwd Ford Explorer 8.8 IRS (upside down) and Explorer inner and Volkswagen Outer axle ( Sleeved). Gas tank 20 gals in hood area and put weight in the car. My car is fast and drive straight and stable. 8 point roll cage from S&W.
