I'd use the cheap barricades to divert the flow of zombies to a single entrance and build my base against a wall or preferably in a corner of two preexisting walls. Basically force them into a kill box.

you should make a path for the zombies with barricade that will make them use the same entrance and then put humans outside the path to kill the zombie this could give you more control over the horde
