I think he overreacted a bit and yes, kissing and letting someone else touch you is considered cheating by many people, but in my opinion it is not insurmountable, so I think he should have resolved it differently, especially if he really loved his wife, and that is something I can't really get out of this.

Ridiculous divorce. There are many ways a man can punish an out of control wife, and her sins were not so grievous as to merit a destructive divorce after 19 years of marriage and the woman being the mother of his children. Also: he sat there to see how she damaged herself and the marriage. He should have intervened, that was duty, he let her down, as much as she did him.
