It's because he's using bandos and bludgeon instead of real gear, if a drop is rolled it goes to somebody at random based on damage. The more damage you do, the higher chance it's in your name.

He's put in the time, the effort, the trial and error, and it has worked out for him for which I am glad. The same will come to anyone who applies the proper tactics. You included.
