@@Sk8TankYes. Yes it is. Legal protection for children from their parents is incredibly lackluster. Though it does talk here about volontary emancipation, the court can take custody away from an abusive parent without their permission ( I think, I’m not American )

Firstly, if there's is blatant, and PROVABLE abuse, like violence, the minor will be removed from the parents' care by the state, and put into the guardianship of another adult. So not that sort of case. If the parent is so neglectful that the minor is essentially already taking care of themselves, Emancipation breaks the parents' legal hold on them, so they can move out, get their own place, and the next time the parent gets drunk and realizes the kid was the only one cleaning up this dump, she can't call the cops and say "my kid ran away, drag him back here". "Sorry lady, legally that isn't your kid anymore". There's also other authorities a parent legally has over their minor child, like control over their money and legal actions. Probably the most often reason to go the Emancipation route is to break these authorities. One of the kids whose family was suing Michael Jackson for molestation, as soon as the trial was over, immediately applied for and got emancipation. His parents no longer have legal authority over him to, just as an example, sue a wealthy celebrity on his behalf regardless of whether or not the boy believes they deserve to be sued. The parents got to keep all the money from THEIR lawsuit, but at least the kid knows they can't pull something like that again.

ehh grey area living on your own doesnt necessarily mean on your own. If you have an income etc but somehow still at mom and dads house. Depending on situation he can still be emancipated. Side topic but secondary is if he does that. Depending on the state dad would have to legally put up with it for generally thirty days and depending on what dad does it can be extended or fines or jail time can ensue.

This is something I had to do when I turned 16. Neither of my parents lived in the same state as me, they both were neglectful and my mom and I got in fights constantly. I moved in with my grandparents on my fathers side who became my legal guardianship. I emancipated with my mom due to not being in school / not living with her, I still have a relationship with both parents yet strained, they don’t really parent me even though they never really did.. it’s more like a mutual respect friendship than a parental one.

The lemonade and cake were very likely just water and a prop. Throwing lemonade, a drink containing a whole bunch of sugar, as well as food dyes and such, into plants is not a good idea either because the sugar could attract microorganisms that could harm the plant, as well as the chemicals generally not being good for them, and I'm pretty sure Mike doesn't know this but I still don't think he'd throw actual lemonade

In 2005, the major problem with emancipation was college. The FAFSA form didn't care about your emancipated status, and required your parent's financial information for both need based AND MERIT BASED scholarships. My girlfriend was emancipated at 16 (in 2005) and was unable to claim her merit based scholarships as she could not complete the FAFSA due to the situation with her parents. I have no idea if the situation has changed any. Obviously the government was trying to prevent rich parents from having their kids get emancipated to qualify for needs based scholarships. But many merit based scholarships will not pay out unless you have a completed FAFSA (at least back then). This is a HUGE problem if you have a poor relationship with your parents. I have no idea how things have changed since I graduated college. Maybe all of this is outdated. But it's at least worth looking into.

I actually knew about this working on the financial aid for a college. Some student’s parents refuse to sign or fill out a FAFSA. So student in certain cases could use this as an option to get Loans/grants. Though it’s usually in extreme cases.
