This song was a big hit for Billy Swan. I like Elvis' version. So good. 👏🎶🎧

Wonderful reaction Seph! Thank you you legend! This was written and sung not long before The Elvis recorded it by Billy Swan. When I met James Burton in 2016 he was with Billy Swan so I got an autograph from him as well! Rumour has it that Elvis asked Billy if he could record it and just like with Bob Dylan's 'Tomorrow Is A Long Time' and Paul Simon's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' Billy Swan preferred Elvis version to his own! It was released as a single and did quite well in America, then years later (I think 1981 4 years after Elvis untimely death) It was released in Great Britain and again was quite a sizeable hit!🥰

This is a studio album, called TODAY. The Today sessions were held in RCA's Studio C, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, March 10-12, 1975, and marked the last time Presley would record in a studio.

"TODAY" is a studio album. The songs of the 50s, 60s, 70s even 80s were written for mainstream to have a "Hook" in the song. A hook is repetitive because that is what draws people into the song. Radio airplay in those days was geared to 3 minute songs.....they were not long "opus's" that took forever to play..."Suspicious Minds" at 4:22 was a long song back in that day to play on the radio. Beatles "Get Back" 3:13.....Beatles "Revolution" 3:21..... Rolling Stones "Satisfaction" 3:45.....Creedance Clearwater Revivals "Proud Mary" 3:07.......Chuck Berrys Johnny B Goode 2:39...The Who's "Pinball Wizard" 2:57 etc etc etc This song "I Can Help" was written by country rock singer songwriter Billy Swan and those were all the lyrics he wrote for the song. He had a big hit with it, Elvis liked it. ..Elvis in "JAMS" ......many times repeated the same lyrics because he did not have the lyrics in front of him....such as "Got My Mojo Working", "Don't think twice its Alright", "Merry Christmas Baby" etc Longer songs began to take hold in the 80s and today the stuff that passes for music can ramble on forever...rap, hip hop etc ....talk about repetitious ....same beat, same rhythm unimaginable "lyrics" the only saving grace of many is when they "Sample someone elses hit from the past" into their "song"

There's gonna be a Seph auction when he has finished all the Elvis material on Yt. 1 sweaty Seph Plays t-shirt, 1 tear soaked blanket, 1 animated guy named Kingsley, 1 cool twin brother with sunglasses and black leather jacket, 1 date with Seph at your expense to Graceland. All his E-reactions on a vhs video cassette or USB memory stick including all comments. Also his hat to the highest bidder. Tosses of his hair and beard are also gonna be available on the forthcoming auction. Just to name a few.

As others have already said, Seph, this was originally written and recorded by Billy Swan. The story I've heard is that Elvis liked the song and he asked Billy if he could record it. Elvis being the kind of person he was, he wanted to be fair to Billy so he said that Billy could record a version of one of his songs if he wanted to. I don't know how true that is, though 🤔 Elvis changed the ending and put what he referred to as the 'stripper ending' on it 😅 Billy preferred Elvis' version to his own 😊

I like this one a whole lot more than you do. Billy Swan's original version, which was a #1 hit in 1974, made it on my best of the 70s playlist. Elvis's cover is remarkably true to the original and has been added to said playlist. To my ears it sounds like Elvis swapped the Farfisa organ on the original for a Hammond B3 organ. I prefer the roller rink quality of that Farfisa. But the gorgeous descending triplet guitar runs remain intact. And you do an excellent air guitar to it. (4:32) Elvis's vocals are top notch and sound quite a bit like Billy's. He sounds like he's really enjoying singing this. I wouldn't be surprised if this was hand-picked by Elvis for inclusion on the album. And the song contains one of the funniest lyrics ever. "It would sure do me good to do you good." I couldn't have said it better myself.

I can't seem to post, trying. Finally worked. Now see if the edit works. Like this one a lot. It's a feel-good song. \ P.S. I'm surrounded by tornados today. There were 18 warnings a few minutes ago. This hurricane is crazy. P.S. It's the next day. I'm fine. The nearest tornado damage to us was 23 miles away, although that tornado started in a swampy wildlife preserve about 15 miles away. The state of Florida has never seen anything like this. There were 130 tornado warnings across the state. I don't know how many actually caused damage. Some were in farmland and cattle farms and swamp land; others were in cities and towns. Lots of damage from tornados in addition to the hurricane itself.

@@SephPlays I'm going to bed in my clothes tonight - just in case we have to skedaddle fast. Local weather station said there have been 10 tornados so far that have caused damage. I don't have any arguments with your analysis and ranking of this song Seph, yes it is slightly repetitive , but overall I enjoy the uplifting feel and drive of the song. I must admit the line 'if your child needs a daddy I can help' I took to mean she is single with a child but on reflection perhaps I am being totally naive.

It seems like he likes to repeat the hook a bit when he's enjoying a song and gets to jamming. It does get a bit repetitive at times (Suspicious minds) but not on this one, not for me. Not when Elvis is offering to be my baby daddy. He said he's dreaming about me. All I got to do is call. So I'm going to need him to repeat it once more and drop his digits with it, just like he dropped that beat. When the man is saying he will do ANYTHING at all, I'm not going to question it. Yes sir, if that's what you have in mind, get on over here and "help".
