To the naked eye, the "Mondi" of Curaçao seems arid and devoid of life. However, nothing could be further from the truth.
Our "Mondi" is home to many indigenous plants and brush. Some of which are traditionally used to cure ailments and disinfect wounds. Birds, rabbits, iguanas and geckos of all shapes and sizes, also call the "Mondi" home.
In the dry season, the sun dries out the twigs and leaves of most plants causing them to appear dead, but once the first drops of the rain season fall, the "Mondi" flourishes once again. This is the cycle of life. This is mother nature.
But sometimes the "Mondi" falls pray to ferocious man-made bushfires. These fires are destructive to the indigenous plants and animals, leaving the invasive neem tree to take over the "Mondi" and the animals without protection from invasive predators. In this episode, we give voice to a dying "Mondi" that cannot speak for itself.
A special thanks to our dear friend who gave voice to this important sentiment.
