*Minor spoilers*. Backup does arrive. About halfway through the game. But *Quite large spoilers* The FBC is cut off from the Oldest House, so they are extremely unprepared for just how dangerous, effective and quick Scratch is so it's still up to you to beat him.

There was a massive Control easter egg they walked past. That guy that they walk past where Alex comments on people not listening to signs is next to the most massive and obvious reference to Control they could have had. Though to be fair it becomes extremely difficult to miss on the way back up the trail.

I switched to someone else’s stream after this one ended; they’re four hours in and they still haven’t actually played as the namesake. Combat is rare, and looks awkward when it does occur. Story is railroaded to the point where you can’t investigate obvious clues until the game allows you to (at the “correct” point of the story), and will handhold you through the -clues- “clues” it wants you to find. You’ll spend most of your time just walking somewhere, clicking on a few things and, if you’re lucky(?), getting some actual gameplay in every now and then with some simple puzzle solving or combat. It’s one rung above a walking simulator so far. Voice acting (so far) has been predominantly wooden (think Ada Wong from the RE4 remake), and it doesn’t help that the dialogue written for them is often so monumentally stupid that it’d be difficult to deliver it convincingly in the first place. They’ll often be used for exposition dumps or to pretty much speak directly to the player because the devs don’t trust the player to pick up on the blindingly obvious. The game looks fantastic & has plenty of smooth animation, but it seems the devs couldn’t find a way to take advantage of this to communicate things to the player instead of having the characters just blurt things out to them. I guess, considering how most of them fail to _behave like humans_ anyway (see: post-autopsy scene), that perhaps I’m supposed to see it as a quirky character trait. But it makes it difficult to get immersed in a game that relies on setting an atmosphere when all the characters keep talking like meta, self-inserts for the writers themselves. I guess I should be grateful that none of them have quipped “well _that_ just happened” so far And I keep ending each paragraph with “so far” because I keep reading that things get much better later on, and by god I hope they’re right, because so far I’m just left wondering what the hell they’ve been doing for the last ten years. I’m not deeply invested in Alan Wake myself, thankfully, but I can imagine this sequel being quite polarising. As long as they don’t go mega-stupid, pull a TLOU2 and kill Alan Wake (or turn him into the bad guy wooaahh surprise plot twist how subversive), maybe they’ll be safe. But, as an observer, this has been painfully underwhelming.

i think that he got a head start by watching the engine driver's arm: he knew within fractions of a second that the whistle was about to blow. Game mechanics wise, I'd bet he got extra dueling cards to improve his chances of beating others. Combine that with character sheet edges and winning is actually quite likely

As an american born to the greasy spoon who lived in london....actually during the time of the first alan wake I got asked that a lot. Its simple we are a fast food culture. We spread out over so much space that getting to and from work took so much time food became an issue so diners filled that need. Also had to say eating out in england was EXPENSIVE!!!!! I actually cook more now that i am back in the states because of all I learned to make while there. And no the English food wasnt awful. Okay the old timey food was pretty bad but modern english cooking when i ate out was some of the best i ever had.

@@barbararowley6077 we actually have problems in New York City now of people coming down with scurvy because people live in food deserts. large areas with no access to fresh fruits or vegetables. No grocery stores or stores that are so expensive they cant afford to shop there. Its in other places too but I know NYC has the worst and most known bad conditions. Its a fallout of the fast food ideology
