That winder-kinda thing is/was a "Cockeye" - A turn down for buggy surrey, what helped anchor down the canvas of the vehicle. Most always decorative too, like yours!

Thanks for the reminder about snakes. I’ve not seen one yet this year. Usually on my property are black snakes and an occasional Copperhead. I’ve never seen a rattler in the wild. Cool finds. My favorite is the big penny 😎 👍

Props to you Michael for your chill reaction to walking up on the rattler. Most folks have the "see snake, kill snake" attitude. They can certainly be appreciated for their beauty if admired from a few feet away. You are killing me with that 1817 large cent though. I think I'd pass out if I ever found something like that. I'm happy as a clam to find anything as old as a wheaty or war nickel.

I am from Victoria, Australia and I enjoy watching your's and Daisy's channel, such interesting finds you get and even the animals are interesting too. The piece you found at 10:15 looks like a tip from an umbrella. It would secure the canopy to the end of the ribs on the frame of the umbrella. Sometimes google image search can also help if your not sure on some items.

I just started detecting and have been watching for a while. Should I dig every signal? I’m thinking it might help me learn my detector and what it’s identifying. I also want to get better understanding of how it works but at the same time trying to make every hole count. P.S. I say hide a verse, this is an awesome platform to “fish”!

Digging every signal will help you learn your Detectors target ID and tones faster . I recommend it, if you cherry pick, you’re gonna miss flat buttons in Old Relics.

We have many rattlesnakes near my home in Scottsdale, AZ. I keep my snake catcher pole and leg guards by my front door. I have captured a lot of them bothering my neighbors.

The small cone-shaped piece with the hole in it (10:14) looks like the tip off of an umbrella. Not the center of the umbrella but one of the spine ends to keep you from poking yourself in the eye.

Watching from Hertford North Carolina. That was a common snapper. You ran into in the woods. An alligator snapper has ridges on the back.

I've spent lots of times in the woods and have seen very few rattlers, they are shy and flee. Cotton mouths on the other hand are numerous and very aggressive. They actually come after you.

I've cleaned up and repurposed a couple of those old dog leash snaps. Those older ones usually loosten up and work fine after some WD40 and a little TLC.
