The lyrics of jisung also said "the seagull that has always been smiling" dreamies actually refer to mark as a seagull because his eyebrows are shaped like seagulls! Hahaha but you're right, they wrote their own parts.

This was Mark’s graduation so all the songs feels that much more special, beautiful time and dear dream had me in tears for weeks. The emotional trauma we went through 😭

for the song "dear dream", the rapper line wrote their own parts and they dedicated it to mark and dream. that's the reason why each lines hit close to home. also, on mark's rap part at the end, he mentioned something about putting a "bookmark" on his chapter with dream. this word holds so much impact to them because they made a song about it in the hot sauce album, which is rainbow (eng title) / bookmark (korean title). i also wanna add the line where he said he'll call back whenever he feels lost and that he hope they don't forget his tone... dream has their own team chant, "yo dream, jjeorro juja fighting!" which translates to "yo dream, let's be dope! fighting!". since mark's their leader, he's the one who leads their chant. true to their words again, when dream started to promote as 6 during boom and reload era, they would often call mark on the phone just so he could lead their chant :(((

I couldn’t even listen to Dear Dream after Mark left. I played Dear Dream once on its release, cried for a few days, and never listened to it again. And I think Mark’s graduation and Dream’s graduation system in general was one of the most painful experiences in NCity history. I’ll always be thankful that more than half of the fandom joined recently because no fan should ever experience the pain we experienced.

I can't remember if it was for Drippin' or 119, but in an uncut/ recording dairy, Heachan said that at the time it felt weird that Dream was doing a song that had a more 127 feel. Also, there is a dance practice for 1,2,3 and it's really cute. to add more sadness, i'll share a not so fun fact as you noticed, this song was about mark (and us but mostly mark). there was this word that jisung mentioned from his part "seagull", mark has this nickname "seagull brows" because of how arched his eyebrows are, resembling the wings of the seagull. so when i saw jisung's part, my heart dropped lol

PS Forgot to mention: Mark has writing credits on 4 of the 5 songs on this album, yes, including Drippin Actually all our rappers are credited on Dear Dream (not even going to go into how this song wrecked me considering Mark was graduating etc) Mark, Jeno, Jaemin and Jisung wrote some beautiful stuff there and it really hits the heart. I love how they have continued to do that with songs like Rainbow. Their words are so beautiful

I think the main reason they didn't recommend you to react this album is that Dreamies and NCTzens were hurt in this era. I also don't listen to Dear Dream much even though I like it alot. Whenever I hear that sound, tears come out TT.. actually there's no bad song in NCT Dream's B-side tracks. By the way, I want you to check out 1,2,3 performance it's really cute and bright

i think the reason why this album wasn't frequently mentioned is bcs of the fact that it reminds us of the graduation system. this album is really great, and tbh this album brought a lot of achievements too. but looking back and listening to the songs here reminded us of emotional trauma we (and 7dream) had gained. i heard somewhere that the supposed title track of Dear Dream was Dear Diary, but they changed it to Dream.

Haechan, Mark and Renjun did the background vocals for 1, 2, 3 haha maybe that's why you can mainly hear Haechan the whole song. The first time I listened to it I thought Haechan was the only one doing the background vocals, his voice it's so powerful! but yeah, anyway, hahs you will always find Haechan doing the bg vocals for most nct songs.

My personal opinion is that Dream albums just get better and better. Also they have steadily grown in their fandom. So that’s probably why you hear about We Boom and Reload more. Reload is my favorite mini-album (although title track-wise I tend to listen to Boom more). Why does listening to Dear Dream still make me cry. 😭

I have tears in my eyes watching you hearing Dear Dream for the first time. This song still feels like a letter they wrote for each other, and having Mark, Jaemin and Jisung credited in it makes it all the more special, we can feel it’s real. These boys love each other a lot and SM shouldn’t have made them suffer this much by splitting them up. For me personally, I found it difficult too to know their voice back then because the studio version sound the same as they performed 1,2,3 in 2018, but when they perform it on the dream show concert it feels kinda different cuz their voice got deeper and more mature and BETTER

ALSO bc i love crying . if you look back at jisung's rap part in dear dream, he mentions a seagull-the seagull is mark. mark's nickname was seagull for some time hehe. also this is MY interpretation but the way this song is structured it was mark starting and ending the song, jeno is right after mark (he unofficially took over as leader), then jaemin (the regret of missed night and day bc he was on hiatus, maybe) and youngest jisung....his verse is so obviously for mark :((( . also tehet the most heartbreaking part whew there is a recording diary for this and mark was there throughout rapline's recording and they kept asking for his input AND THEN he was the last one to record his verse after everyone else....yes tears i love tears

mark has writing credits on 4/5 songs on this album (yup dripping included). he often writes his own parts (and sometimes its very noticeable, or at least to me, bc his verse often gets more flowery and poetic in wording than you'd expect LOL, like how the whole song is very repetitive in wording with dripping and overflowing and his verse says "my feelings capture everything" "in your heart, rain shower" "love ain't never shallow" ). the boy loves his metaphors. once nct 127 filled out a questionnaire of "which fruit reminds you of which member" and most members were just like "mark likes watermelon so hes watermelon" but he wrote actual reasons and comparisons between them and fruits LOL (taeyong, dragonfruit, gorgeous inside and out. doyoung, grapes, just like how grapes come in large bunches, it feels like doyoung always has many thoughts in his head)

yes! dear dream is kind of like . a letter to 7dream from 7dream, hence the title! consider it as part 1 of rainbow (if im not mistaken, rap line and jisung wrote their rap parts for this song too like in rainbow). so there are a lot of references to this song in rainbow if you look back and compare lyrics :))

the rappers all have writing credits on dear dream, which makes it all the more touching. in the live before the album launch where they talked about this song, jeno even explicitly says he wrote what he wanted to say to mark T_T this whole song is so sweet and its also SO abundantly clear which that jeno jaemin and jisung wrote their own verses. jisungs line, "I'm worried about the seagull that's always been smiling for us" - also made me tear up bc of how sweet and also abundantly clear that its written by jisung, in case you didn't know mark has the nickname "seagull" from the dreamies bc of his eyebrows.. never thought that nickname would make me emotional. jaemin also has a really sweet verse about mark, and if you dive into more of their videos (one of them talked about memories of their trainee days?) jaemin talks about how mark motivated him. jaemin actually didn't have much interest in being an idol when he was younger, and according to himself, slacked off a lot in training. i dont remember the details, but at some point he did find his motivation, and mark was his hyung that he looked up to so much. he says that mark would train every second of the day, when he wasn't dancing, hed be rapping or singing, and it made him motivated to practice just as hard. there's also an old photo of trainee jaemin's "goals", like a todo list or schedule, and one of them was "follow mark hyung. mark points out what i need to fix" 🥺 also idk if he wrote it, but renjuns "your appearance its my strength, ill be your home" hits cause he says something so similar to this in 7llin in dream at the campfire. especially since renjun is actually second-oldest in dream, i feel like he really relied on mark. all of haechans lines about "a long time ago, every night a compass in my dream", he (and mark) joke a lot about how they've been together for so much of their lives and as if they keep following each other.

I’m not sure if anyone has already mentioned it but I thought Dear Dream ended with Mark saying “Hope we always feel like” and felt like it was a cliffhanger to signify that their future is looking like a cliffhanger at that point. But after a few more listens (yes, I was bawling the whole time), I then realised that the other Dreamies ended the song in the background saying “I’ll be your home” So actually the whole complete sentence was “Hope we always feel like….home” Please I cried more after that 😭

The memories I have omfg. I cannot describe the emotions. It was the first dream comeback that I was fully aware of and officially in the fandom. It was a time in my life that felt so God damn easy and light, but also changing all the time. The album perfectly portraits the time of growing up and going through puberty lmao. I'm Jisung's age, so it felt even more personal for some reason. Also, Mark leaving wasn't as emotional to me as it must've been for other, since I had manipulated my brain to think he wouldn't disband and somehow find a way back - and guess what, my intuition was right.

And yeah sm wanted people not to get attached initially and just bop to the cute songs because it had failed once with super junior, since they were temporary but fixed by public demand. So they tried to fix the problems that super junior 05 system had and created dream. I feel like their problem with running dream as intended was that they kept delaying mark's graduation because they couldn't pump out as talented "young" trainees at the rate that they were graduating, and five core members would've graduated in a short span of two years if it was done in the intended timeframe. The delay caused more time in the public eye and at that point people started getting attached...so they decided that it was no use making graduations painless and started giving us maximum pain instead!!
