It's fun to catch the same fish more than once. It proves that catch and release works. When I was living in Montana and fishing a small section of a small stream I got to know a particular brown trout. His jaws were not lined up and it made hime super easy to identify, much like your flathead with the scar. I named the fish Bob and caught bob at least 8 times over a summer. On three different days Bob came to see me via a barbless fly and 5 or 6x leader. At least a couple other times also. Makes you wonder how many other fish we catch more than once- most are not easy to identify as an individual. Thanks for the video and keep on catching them!

Hey Justin. I am sure you have probably already thought of this but I use a quick disconnect system when anchored to disconnect when I get a big fish on to keep ‘em out of the anchor. It works on big offshore species like king fish, sharks and bullreds! Tight lines bro
@normanburns-ko4ro Жыл бұрын
Have to tie your rope to the back of anchor blades then Ty wrap it to the eye of the anchor. When you pull hard on you break the tywrap.

Nice video. Its a good feeling when you catch a particular fish again. It let's you know that you're treating them right and they're fine. It probably happens more than we know, but it only happens when a fish has a peculiarity that lets you identify it. It happens to me with carp fishing. keep it up Justin.

I didn’t read all the comments but this is the second or third video you’ve hooked a really nice cat and lost it due to the anchor. Would it be worth putting a floatation device on your anchor and unhook the kayak from the anchor in those instances when you hook a really big fish. Just a thought. Love watching your videos!

You should put a quick release on your anchor line like I have on both my Kayaks. I have a one handed in seconds release right next to my seat. If I even think the fish is going to get caught in it I pull the quick release and I am free to fight the fish. The end of my anchor line floats and I go back and retrieve it later after the fish of coarse. Easy peezy.

Awesome video! I recently bought 4 of your gollywhopper rods and love them! I have one question for you though. I bought one of the same shimano reels you use, and noticed that no matter how hard I cranked it down in the reel seat, the reel still had a tendency to shift to one side or the other, putting it out of alignment with the line eyelets. Did you experience this issue, or have any advice to help stop the reels moving?
@KayakCatfish Жыл бұрын
Thanks for buying the rods! The Shimano Tekotas have pretty narrow reel feet. Personally, I use channel lock pliers to crank my reel seats down to keep them from shifting. Another option though is to send Catfish Sumo an email about the issue. They have some shims to slide over the reel feet to help give it a more snug fit that they will send you for free.
@matthewirwin8721 Жыл бұрын
@@KayakCatfish thank you for that advice! My next idea was to see if there were any kind of shims available or perhaps shove some wood up there to stabilize the reel, but I will definitely shoot him an email. Appreciate it! Tight lines and good luck on your next trip!

Justin, HERE’S A SIMPLE WAY TO AVOID LOSING FISH SNAGGED ON YOUR ANCHOR ROPE !!! Attach your rope to your kayak with a CARABINER. Make sure you clip it in a place you can reach while fighting a bigun. Also, you’ll need a small buoy or fender about 5’ from the boat end. When you hook a large fish you don’t want to risk losing, unsnap your anchor rope and toss it overboard. When you get back to your spot, your anchor position will be duplicated.
