I'm 54 now, but used to own a Yamaha DX21 and a V50 back in the day (as well as a Yamaha U1 acoustic piano). I've only just started getting back into music and have messed around with different software synths and DAWs. Finally settled on Bitwig and also bought an Arturia Minifreak, which gives me both the hardware and the software (love the other Arturia stuff as well, like Pigments, Augmented Piano, etc.). I'm a novice as far as synths go but it's nice, like you say in the video, to be able to turn the actual knobs but on the other hand, it's nice to see it mirrored on the screen as well... Also bought Korg's Wavestate Native software, works very well as a VST but I think I might fork out for the actual hardware as well if budget allows...

Yeah we all have periods with less music. Good to hear your are back into playing and making music. The Arturia Minifreak sounds really fun, never had one of those yet. Though I've played around with Pigments quite a lot. Really fun and versatile synth. Yeah tactile feel can't be beaten. It's like with a piano for me, the real deal gets you going in ways hard to explain. 🥳 How do you like the sounds of the Wavestate? Can do really cool evolving pads on that one.

@@MattiasHolmgren The Wavestate native software is great, wonderful sounds, different from the Minifreak but equally rewarding and it keeps you drawn in, difficult to let go. Still, I would like to get the Wavestate Mk2 hardware to go with it, I'll let you know when I get my hands on one 😉

How is the CPU usage?
@MattiasHolmgren
@MattiasHolmgren 8 сағат бұрын
On my M1 Max 32GB the Bitwig CPU meter shows about an increase of 18% when using MEGA, 15% on NORMAL, and 8% on ECO mode of the synth. It's not too bad compared to other recent synths I've tried. Though it makes pops when changing effects delays / reverbs etc which probably could be a fix. I also forgot to mention you can rightclick the preset selector and get a larger overview with tags and more details on the patches.

This is a great demonstration of a plugin emulation that is easily on the level of G-Force's OB-E. I am very much looking forward to what Acustica Audio does next. Their other plugins can be clunky to use; but I love the results I can achieve on the ones I have. Jupiter and Junos aren't my thing; but I look forward to what comes next.

Mattias, this was a great livestream. You weren’t kidding in the title. This software really sounds awesome. What is “real” anymore?

Thanks for joining Stribling! Yeah, multiverse is real... my craving for a Roland Juno 60 will never die though. 🤷‍♂️😂

I owned a Jupiter 8 back in the late 80’s. A wonderful machine. It was pretty out of tune and I’m not talking about the oscillators alone. The filters and VCA’s too. The auto tuning knob could only do so much. Not that it was terrible. it gave the synth a very personal character as each voice sound slightly different. When I finally sold it, I decided to properly tune it, by tweaking all the trim pots inside and yes, it sounded cleaner but had lost its identity, its personality. I really should have kept it.😕

Omg, must have been a dream!!! 🥳 How much did you pay for the OG Jupiter 8? Heard it was around €5k when it was released back in 1981. Would love to see some pics under the hood of the OG Jupiter 8 someday. Yeah you should have kept it. Always hard to know what you will miss in the future 😂 I'm gonna sell out some stuff here in the studio now, too crowded with stuff I don't use. Hopefully I won't miss the gear. 🤷‍♂️

@ you’re not going to believe this: I paid about €750. This was around 1988. It was obviously secondhand. I had it for about 6 years but needed the cash as I was about to build a house. I sold if for about €1500. A year or so earlier (87 I think) I almost bought a Korg PS3200 for €1250 but didn’t do it. I rented it for a few months.It was also a wonderful synth but in a different way. Not as warm as the Jupiter but, capable of producing some amazing sounds.

@ it is weird that all these old synths still outshine new synths, new replications. I think it’s because they are imperfect that gives each unit a unique personality. I’ve read that there are no two minimoogs from the 70’s that sound exactly the same. So, people who have nagged about Behringer Model-D’s don’t sound the same as an original Minimoog, are talking BS. In the late 80’s I also bought Fairlight CMI II-X that was previously owned by the Swiss band Yellow. I restored it as it was in pretty bad shape. Even then it was so outdated but, it was wonderful because it had both character and personality…something that generally doesn’t go hand in hand with digital gear. Yet it was the case. And owners of Fairlights II(-X) today still swear by them and their unique sound. The CMI II-X is still a cult and an icon. The CMI series III, though technologically far superior to the II-X, wasn’t as popular. The unique lo-fi sound is almost impossible to emulate. It was the distortion in the ADAC’s that made it sound as it did.

tal jup 8 is the best one in my opinion ,it even allows you to tune each voice card,and that is a game changer that allows a more organic analog sound compared to other companies. 85€ compared to €229. Modular Unified Synthesis Technology seems like a marketing term,since you dont need nonlinear convolution, dynamic Volterra series or that kind of heavy processing to circuit modeling those componements. take a example of Diva...or OP-X.
