Doing guitar tech work myself, the vast majority of what you are asked to do is setups, restrings, and basic cleaning and tuning things up. I am happy to do that work because there is great satisfaction in a "restored" guitar that the owner is excited to play again. The other stuff (pickup swaps, electronics work, fret work, etc.) is more fun and a bit more challenging, but just not as frequent. Great video.

Thanks! As you have probably noticed, most guitars don't need a lot of work to get them going again unless they're a specific case.

That note about the grounding wire under the bridge is a really good tip, especially for Ormsby's. Some of the older Goliath bridges (i think from run 4 or 5) had grounding issues, and people in the facebook group had an awful time tracking down the ground.
@EricMorettin5 ай бұрын
What you can also do is scuff up the underside of the bridge to expose the bare metal, which won't be seen since it's facing the body, and the found wire will have an even better point of contact to ground the strings.

Good look over and review as always, The only thing of mention is the pick up isn't the seymour duncan retribution, it's the seymour duncan machete still a Signature pickup for Dino. Just different from the Retribution.

Thanks! Yes, that totally slipped my mind as I got the two mixed up by accident.

I love everything about this except I just cant get into the ormsby headstocks. I know most people love them but i just wish it looked more like the reversed RG design.

If people don't want to use steel wool due to the metal fragments. You can use "scotch-brite" or scouring pads. I used them for auto body work. They have multiple grits and I prefer to use them just did frets with them the other day. You can fold them up and not have as much direct finger pressure variations when sanding.

I've also used scotch Brite pads and they're great with the Frine fret paste. I also use a vacuum to suck up the steel wool shavings

My interpretation is that when the tech saw the angled pickup, he thought it was wrong, so that's why they removed the pickup to drill new holes so it would sit parallel, which is why the tabs hit the body.

A signature guitar that seems subtle enough to where i can play it and not have to worry about the name of the artist and it plays great to boast... I WANT.

I know this isn't a dimebag video but what would you say the best speaker for a dime like tone is that's not Jaguar speakers because there rather hard to come across. I've been looking at the Texas heats but I'd like a second opinion

Learn how to work on your own guitars, you'll save a lot of money and you can get some great deals on guitars that have some issues.

In the early 2000’s I had pickups and selector switch replaced (dimarzios and a super switch) The guitar came back with much larger screws in the pickup rings and the wiring looked like a real rats nest with cold solder joints. I called the manager and asked why it was so, he said the tech advised the pickups looked 2nd hand, even though I bought them new from the store. It was a lot of money but they replaced the pickups and screws with the correct ones but the guitar buzzed like crazy with high gain (yes they are humbuckers) They then sent the guitar to Charles Cilia (one of AU’s best luthiers, they told me) I think Charles would be disgusted or if he did wire it up he needs to find a new profession So I learned all about setups, electronics and even started my own custom effects pedal business, so yes I agree it’s better to learn yourself, not to save money but to know the job is done correctly And before I forget, they kept the original pickups for some reason 😢

Sorry Bro, so many wrong facts, its ridiculoues. But the worst thing is: The pick up is mounted the other way around. Dont know what happend, but look for the spacing.

You won't disclose the information about what shop did this. It is not defamation if you can prove it is true. Help the community by warning us who not to use. This is the kind of situation a customer would not encounter or understand until the damage is already done.

It was done at a Long & McQuade in the west coast of Canada. All I'm doing is relaying the information provided by the owner (not me). If the guitar comes back, I'll try to see if the owner will allow me to take the pickup out so I can see the damage under there.
