on youtube everything is 8 bit....you make money from photography or from video making? zv-e1 for me is not a camera...i just hate it , it's a rip off...so for a7c2 i would buy a crop lens, sigma 18-50 for 4k 60, even 14 mp is more than enough as photo side, and lenses for full frame sigma 28-70 and sony 85mm 1.8...small lighweight set-up the 85mm in crop mode is 127mm at 2.8

The video on the zve1 would work better for me but the photo of the a7cii would be nice haha I know the zve1 isn’t perfect but right now it seems to check more boxes off than the a7cii for video since I keep having to do more video lately so I don’t know 😂😂 hard life here I know

so between zv-e1 and sony a7c2 and a fuji camera i would choose nikon zf...it's the 3 of them combined :) no overheating 2 hours, enough mp, retro style, amazing iso! -10 ev focus , very good autofocus, mechanical shutter, 14 fps, dual slot good enough for raw and jpeg, and video file is recording on one card only, just like the sony's

Kevin, that background lighting is stellar! I love the way the beams of light extend into the room. Did you use a fog machine? Mist filter? Whatever you did, it looks amazing.

Thank you! Been trying to set up my cheap fog machine I have to add a little bit of haze to make it nicer to shoot when I’m home! I also do use a cinebloom 10% filter on my lenses so that helps! But appreciate noticing that! I know I gotta make sure to redo the fog halfway through shooting cause it tends to disappear at times 😂 but still love it!

Been debating this very thing myself. Which one did you end up going with? For me, I am wondering if I would give up much dynamic range going with A7cii for video (besides low light capability). If I understand, the A7cii / A7iv downsamples from a higher resolution than the the ZV-e1/A7siii. Would I be losing out by going A7cii? As far as lenses go, I am planning to try the new 24-50 2.8 which seems perfect for these small cameras.

I went with the zve1 since I use it a lot for video and love it. If you need any photo capabilities then I’d recommend getting the a7cii to have a mechanical shutter to make it better for photos!

I've got the zv-e1 and recently have the a7cii on pre-order. If your usage goes along the lines of 70% video, 30% photography, i say go with the zv-e1. It's a perfect compact FF solution for filming short clips, minutes at a time and capable enough to take really nice photos as well with the updated AF. I was really surprised at the quality of images i was getting for stills as well. I've paired it with a Tamron 20-40 f2.8 and have not taken if off for other lenses thus far. Not to mention, you're getting a fx3/a7siii sensor, a low light monster packed into a small form factor at a fraction of the price. If your style of filming is like mine, minutes of clips at a time and not long form videos, overheating will never be an issue. Having owned a7 systems since its early iterations, I've never used the evf for filming anyway. I'd say , the a7cii would be more a photographer's camera with video as an added feature like the a7iv. If you're looking to downsize to only ONE single system, the a7cii would make more sense for photography. FF 4k 60 , 4k 120 , High ISO and rolling shutter performance could be the deciding factor here.

Yea I think I’m leaning more and more into the zve1 since I know if I want a small photo setup, I’ll honestly use my xe4 since it’s just too good haha and then can use my a7iv for more of a pro style setup for photos when needed! But definitely want to get that small form factor for video for like on the go Vlog, some b-roll and such and paid it with my a7siii for that too!

@@BackpackingVideos I apply it after converting the footage to rec709 with the Sony converter LUT and then add my LUT and then I do the rest of the editing of like shadows, contrast and so on.

Sadly most kit lenses are lower quality. You’d be better off getting a 20-40 Tamron lens for the size and the potency. Been enjoying using it with this!

Struggling choosing between the two. I have an a7siii, but choosing to get rid of my A7iv for a more compact travel camera. I have an x100v I use just for fun. For a secondary travel camera to my a7siii, would you recommend getting a A7Cii to makeup for photography shortcoming of a7siii or zve1 for built in mic/dynamic stab? ~ if both cameras could be had for the same price around $1800, which would you choose in my situation? I’m 70% video, 30% photo. I’m returning one of them , but ergonomics/dials feel so much better in the A7Cii but can’t seem to eliminate the zve-1 since I’m a videographer (hard situation since I enjoy the flexibility of 33MP when taking photos)

I totally feel you on that! If you have an a7siii and don’t want to have the a7iv but enjoyed the video capabilities of the a7iv but can get the photos as well, then the a7cii might be the best bet. You still great video with the a7cii with the 4k 24fps, and even the 4k 60 crop should work out fine. Plus you’d get the a7siii for more major video capabilities if needed I think. Specially if you need a secondary travel camera, might as well have a photo camera that has great video still, rather than a camera that is more video centred with some photo you know? But if you don’t think you’d take as much photo but more video, the zv-e1 can do great photos and so can the a7siii honestly. I’ve done that myself haha

I would go with the a7cii if you’re wanting something for sharp photos with good video because the ZVE1 doesn’t have a mechanical shutter so with the photos, it won’t be as good besides as well the megapixel difference.

I couldn‘t agree more with your thoughts. I‘ve watched so many comparison videos about these two cameras. But this video is by fare the best. I‘m in the same thinking/deciding process as you. I have the Sony A7IV right now and I‘m generally really happy about it. But i‘d like to have something smaller. But then the lenses…I really like, that you also considered this point. I would wish so much, that the 35mm f2 zeiss lens which is built in the Sony RX1 would be available separately.

man, I was actually in the same dilemma as you. I’ve made the decision to get the zv-e1 because it’s more compact and the built in mic. I’m gonna be using it more as a b-cam/everyday cam so the built in mic played a big part with my decision and I don’t mind the 12mp for photos. I was originally gonna get the samyang 35mm f2.8 pancake lens that you mentioned, but opted for the samyang 35mm f1.8 which isn’t that much bigger than the 35mm pancake. Eventually, I’ll also be adding the tamron 20-40mm f2.8 for a good all around lens and the size of it is actually pretty small compared to other prime sony zoom lenses. Overall, I just liked the idea of not having to rig it out and attach a mic, can literally just bring the camera, lens, nd filter and you’re good to go! And the fact that you can get amazing image quality from such a small camera is pretty awesome! Hope this helps!

That’s so true! I forgot about the zve1 having the internal mic that’s pretty good! And with a combo of the new Adobe premiere pro speech enhancement then you’re golden! And true I don’t mind the 12mp either. I sometimes use my a7siii to do videos and photos so it works haha

If you had a mic on the a7cii with a small mic (for instance, the Rode Videomicro II) to compare to the ZV-E1's built-in mic, which would you say offers better audio quality? While I like the built-in mic on the ZV-E1, I also like the front-dial and extra buttons on the a7cii.

@@Alakazam2047 I would probably say the rode video micro will have the better quality audio, but the difference wouldn’t be that big imo, and with post processing both of these mics would sound really good. Also, the zve1 internal mic essentially has 3 different mics that can be adjusted manual/auto which can be useful depending on what you’re filming. Even with the rode video micro, I still find it to be a bulky setup with the mic being attached to the hot shoe. It’s all preference, I think if you like the extra dials/buttons and prefer to use an external mic and favor photography with good video features/quality, the a7c ii might be a better choice for you! If you prefer a more minimal setup with amazing video quality/features and don’t mind 12mp for photography, the zve1 might be the better choice!

Very true! Unless your camera shoots raw video you definitely have to get it in camera almost perfectly compared to photo.

‘Sharper’ at 4k 24/25/30 but no good at 60 (APSC crop) and won’t do 4k120. Also sharper does not necessarily equate to a nicer or more cinematic image. They filmed ‘The Creator’ on the ZVE1 sensor. Partly due also to that sensor’s low light and low rolling shutter.

I hear you. There is no simple formula for selecting the next gear. Have you considered the Sony A7CR, paired with an APS-C lens? For example, the Sony 15mm F1.8 (equivalent to 22mm FF) or the Sony 24mm F1.8 ZA (equivalent to 36mm FF). Yes, the MP count will be 26MP (but that is more than enough for general photography). This way, you get the best of both worlds. Also, the Sony A7CR has only a 1.2 crop for 4K60P recording compared to the Sony A7CII. FYI, I have the Sony ZVE1, but I bought it primarily for video.

See I would’ve gone with the a7cR but the price tag on it is so ridiculous much for what it does haha I can’t justify doing that sadly. If I’m going to shoot apsc mode might as well just only use my Fuji honestly haha they’re great for that! But the zve1 entices me a bit more for the video specs with minor photo since I can bring my Fuji xe4 that’s small if I want a smaller setup or bring my a7iv if I need to do a lot more pro photo. Just wish the a7cii didn’t have a crop in the 4k 60. Same as the a7iv haha always hated it, which I can get by but would’ve been nicer not to have to deal with it haha

It feels like the only reason they came out with a 24 to 50 F2.8 G Sony lens it’s because it’s a smaller compact zoom lens to cater to their compact cameras so at least that’s kind of good but other than that they’ll have to do a lot more sadly haha

I chose the ZV-E1 which has more features. Both of them are great when going to shoot with small lenses. If you will be taking pics outside go with the A7CII because of the Rangefinder.

I sold my a7iv. I got the Fuji xs20. However, I have also been torn btwn a7cii and zve1. I think zve1 is the better choice. I dislike the rolling shutter of a7cii. Its stabilization still sucks. Zve1 offers more for the buck. For photos, I’ll stick w my Fuji.

I do enjoy filming with my a7siii or zve1 the most honestly. I use my a7iv more for like quick snaps of video when I’m needing it on the go while taking photos and I can switch to video quick for a couple things haha

@@jaymills1720 I prefer the a7siii and zve1 mainly because they’re meant more for video honestly so my mind just kind a seeks using them more for video. No crop on the 4k 60 and I also can use 4k 120 if needed with great lowlight. The a7iv is great too despite the crop in the 60fps and lower native iso for lowlight in slog 3 but just each has their purpose for me when the situation comes.

I feel you haha only reason I’d go with the zve1 or a7cii is for the full frame since I have full frame glass haha but also with the a7cii you can use apsc lenses for smaller form factor if needed so you get the best of both worlds to a certain degree. But I recently picked up the zve1 since I found it used for like $1,800 on B&H luckily haha I’m making a video about what made me fully go with it over the a7cii and not due to just the price that I got it for haha

For video there is no comparison, the full frame full sensor 4k 60fps on the ZVE1, nearly full sensor 120fps and low light capabilities win the day. It is astonishing. Plus the extra stabilisation on that camera which means you can leave the gimbal which is ideal for the lighter setup. For photos the A7Cii is better, but I am very surprised just how nice the photos are out of the ZVE1, it’s actually a great hybrid camera.

Sony does have the f4 pancake lenses like the apsc 10-20mm which will help with the 4k60 crop (btw which eliminates the tolling ahutters on the a7cii) Theres also the 28-60 full frame compact lens! Super lightweight

I have the FX30 besides my A7IV and I'm barely using it, because I'm so used to the EVF that it's kind of annoying to don't have one ... in this case I would rather go with the A7C 2

I’ve got the same dilemma 😅A7Cii: Crop mode for photos will work resolution-wise, a bit sharper, more buttons/controls, mechanical shutter, ZV-E1: less rolling shutter, dynamic active stabilization, better low-light video, seems to adjust auto-exposure faster, and preserves highlights a bit better from what I’ve seen, because of that it will be a noticable better vlog camera.

My a7cii arrives tomorrow. I have the 20-40mm I plan on using at the travel lens. I was really considering the pz 16-35 then have Clear image zoom on when zooming for a 16-50mm. Kinda torn

before i watch this video, i just wanted to say mate i had the same problem deciding between the two and i ended with the a7c2 and returned the a7iv which was in box, i just figured the 60fps is still good video which it seemingly is, and i get great stills which a phone can seemingly never touch in megapixel.

That makes sense! Only reason I do prefer my a7iv is cause of dual sd cards for back up for my projects and jobs. The zve1 would be more my everyday video camera with limited photos just to ensure I capture what I need with great video.

I know it's incomparable to a actual camera but y'know , the stills megapixel and quality obvi has to be better then my phone was my thoughts haha. I dunno if 4k video from phones is real 4k but it usually looks good to me :)

you are not alone i am in the sane boat. my issue is that with age i need to wear glasses to read from screen. Can i rely on viewfinder alone or i will still be needing to work on lcd screen to change settings? I also wonder if i can use clear zoom to compensate for not have crop mode if i go for zve1 . what is your take on it ? for lens, i will start with kit lens and a 24mm f2.8 by samyang tiny series

Yea I know the viewfinder won’t be as great on these as others from what I’ve researched and I’ll have to make my peace with their screens haha but I heard the clear zoom on the zve1 is pretty good which kinda seems a little enticing to go for over the a7cii for the video specs and minor photos. So I think if you want more photo then the a7cii is better but if you’re more video driven and minor photo then the zve1 would be better. For me right now it’s looking like the zve1 since I would use it for more video and minor photos. But still hard to for sure decide haha
