There are a few things that helped me spacially get parking better when I got a different vehicle: Walk around the vehicle and check it out (tires o.k.? Any new scratches? Doors locked?) each time before you get in. Indirectly, you are getting familiar with its shape and size. Washing the vehicle. Same idea. Get out and check the lines, the location of the curb myself, every time. Park near the same spot each time in a lot. Practice a system for remembering where you are parked. Looking for features of your vehicle indirectly reinforces your familiarity with it overall. Fold in the side view mirrors in drive-through windows. Helps you get closer and not whack them too. Off-road some. Seeing what your vehicle can handle builds confidence in it. Use seat adjustments if you have them to sit higher, look above the steering wheel. Practice in different lots, curbside locations, driveways, etc. of course! Nothing like lining up with the rails in an automatic car wash to give you a sense of where the tires are! Godspeed m'lady!

When backing up, use your rear view mirror and side view mirrors to help you align properly into the parking place. Your Dad appears to have kept his cool throughout the whole learning process, so that's definitely a plus. :)

Can't tell you how much I agree with that last part! Our dad was far too easily embarrassed by our occasional mess-ups (c'mon - everyone stalls once or twice) he'd stress us totally, get angry with us, we'd end in tears and that'd be the end of it. HE didn't like looking like an idiot in front of people on the road.

Navaeh, you did an amazing job! You will get more used to how it feels to turn into a parking spot and how to better judge your distance. Parking was one of the most intimidating skills for me to master when I got my license. And don't feel bad about not having your license just yet. I didn't fully feel really confident to go for my driver's test until I was 20. It will all become second nature to you soon enough. Keep up the good work! 💕

Best way to learn how to parallel park is to use 4 empty parking spaces & where the lines are straight not on an angle. Use one space to pull in & then back into the one opposite to the rear opposite space , also have your dad stand in the spot on the right side of where you first pull up as if a car is parked infront of where your parallel parking. Also you can move your side view mirrors by adjusting them to see the road & bottom of your tires on both sides, don't forget to adjust them back after you've parallel parked.

There’s a specific method that we were taught for parallel parking. It has to do with how far you pull up next to the car in front, then when you’re backing up, to what point do you turn before you stop and straighten it out. Problem is, I can’t remember the two key points to this fool proof method. Maybe Dad or a viewer can. Great job so far. Keep practicing, Nevaeh!

Absolutely BEST vehicle to practice driving! I learned how to drive in a two vehicles: 1) 1966 Buick Skylark and 2) 1982 GMC Suburban. Because the vehicles were so large, I really learned how to park, handle driving beastly vehicles in wet and snow and the big test ding for many...PARALLEL parking! When I took my driving test and was told to parallel park, I nailed it...parking 6" from the curb. The Examiner made me pull out, go around the block and parallel park again; 6" from the curb AGAIN! Embrace the large vehicle @Nevaeh...it'll make you a much better driver!

Well done!!!! I remember my mom made us learn how to drive a stick shift and she picked the steepest hill near our home to have us stop at the top and take off. Hi Niveah - we (The Zippsters on YT) are faithful followers of your family’s channel 😀 glad this came into our feed. What a thing this learning to drive is! Your generation are so natural to it compared to in my day - we’re golden oldies - one summer day a couple of days before my 16th birthday (legal driving age in BC) my Dad came home with a loaner vehicle from his mechanic. It was an automatic so he said “come on Ruthie” this will be easy for you to drive. So, with my girlfriends waiting at my place, off he and I went, I made it down ½ a block, along the next and at the second corner panicked 😱when I couldn’t straighten out, drove through a fence and crashed into a neighbour’s house. Little had my Dad known I didn’t know a brake pedal from a gas pedal. You and your Dad did great. All the best on driver’s test day.

You did great. I, like you, was taught by my Dad and he was a police officer. I loved it. When I was learning to drive, we did not have automatics. My Dad, purposefully, took me on a hill that had a stop sign on it. Lol. After several, several attempts of not stalling it with a jerking motion and not enough gas, I finally did it. Lol there several cars behind me too to add to the frustration and humiliation. But a hill never intimidated me again. Point is that parking will not intimidate you either. Just need the experience. Great job by the way on the parallel parking. You did better on your first attempt than most people never do on their 1000th attempt. You go girl.

Parking was one of the most problem area for me to master when I got my license. The funniest thing was when I got my license in S.A. was I passed the test but they failed my car because the two front wheels needed new tyres. So Luckily for me across the road from the testing area was a tyre company (very convenient don't you think ha ha) and I had to have the tyres replaced then they gave me my license papers. Believe it or not that was my third attempt at the age of 29 years old. Nevaeh you did a terrific job and you and your dad had such a beautiful quality time and your dad is such a terrific teacher and very calm and do not forget Nevaeh you were driving the truck this time round and not the other vehicle you were used to so your parking skills were epic. Well done. Have a lovely day, greetings from the UK.

Mark some parking spaces in the yard outside your own house with paint , this way you can practise parking on your own anytime you want to as much as you want to, I did this for my wife when she was learning to drive, she was able to park perfectly before she ever went out on the road. You can make different spaces for reverse and parallel parking and practice them all at home, just like homeschooling your own driving lesson plan.

Hey Nevaeh, super video. I taught both daughters, 3 nieces and a couple of our friends' kids while I was still an officer. I was part of the Field Training Officers group in our department and honing new folks driving skills with finesse and situational awareness was my favorite skills to work on. My daughters both felt that they had to go far beyond what other kids did but now with adult kids of their own, they are exellent drivers and super driving coaches. I have to admit that I was just a bit jealous of your dad as those times I spent with my ladies was among the best times of my life. Thanks for the sweet reminder (and you didn't roll your eyes or blow your bangs once)! 😅

Well done. In the UK, the parking for the test is all reverse or parallel. My dad was a rally driver for a hobby, and he taught me to drive. Hours of reversing in figure of 8's and parking between traffic cones, using only side mirrors, in a gravel carpark, with holes so big you could sit in them, in the dark, just street lights and the car lights. His thinking was, if I damage the car, it's mine, therefore I have to pay for the repairs. Now I can reverse perfectly, parallel parking almost as good (depends if you've got some twit too close and not watching your signals) Set up a few hay bales, as if you are in a parking area, and practice. The fact you live where you do, it's private and I assume, you can drive on the land with no licence. It's much easier when you're on your own and no one watching and talking in the car, also I found the bigger the car the better, because you tend to naturally leave enough space for your own vehicle. Well done Nevaeh.

When I was 16 (54 years ago) and practicing my parallel parking a day before the test, I hit my dads car and didn’t stop until I put a looong crease all the way down the side of his car…he watched from the sidelines. I was devastated, but he made me continue to practice, saying what more harm could I do. I aced the test!. It was a “fond” memory most of my life which we laughed about often. Keep practicing.
