Just a protip for the future and others: you can remove the two screws on the column covers if you turn the steering wheel!

Nice one mate. Still surprises me that you don't have a few mil subscribers. Just a matter of time I guess. Definitely the highlight of my day when I see you've released a new video. Love the humour.

A lot of memories came back to me when you started it, I've had a 2001 and a 2002, both manual. Don't think I've ever seen a VE with literally 0 options like that before, vast majority at least have A/C. I broke lots of door handles and that's about it, 1ZZ's are noisy as hell, not particularly powerful, and like to burn oil, but man can they take a beating. They're pretty much nonexistent to find this rust free in Canada, both of mine had a little rust in the rear quarters and on most of them you can almost remove the contents of the trunk without opening it

You should pick up a front anti sway bar from the junk yard, they were standard on the '98 Corolla LE and CE but not on the VE.

FYI , you dont have to take the steering wheel off, to access the screws just crank the steering wheel hard left and hard right.
@jimmyjimjims7483
@jimmyjimjims7483 3 жыл бұрын
In the junkyard the steering wheels are locked because there's no key in the ignition so the steering lock engages and there's no way to disengage it with the column cover on, that is true if you have the key but in my case I didn't

What you’re doing is exactly what I’ve been wanting to do! Buying old cars from the 90s and restoring them. I have to ask; I have a 1995 base model 5 speed. I want fold down seats which the base model doesn’t have. I think the LE model has. I haven’t found one in any junkyard to find out and compare the hardware I need. Have you converted to a fold-down seat before?
@jimmyjimjims7483
@jimmyjimjims7483 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have you just buy the whole seatback and dont forget the bolts/hardware and they bolt right in. The architecture of the car is the same for all models its only the options themselves that change. I always do measurements beforehand because some companies are buttholes enough to change the setup for each car but Toyota isn't typically like that, the Japanese are very ergonomic in that way

Funny enough, you can install the OEM tach inside the Corolla. You just need to swap the speedometer between the gauge cluster to keep the original odometer reading.

At the junkyard the cars have no power and no keys so the steering wheels are locked in place, it works well otherwise but at the junkyard its a pain in the ass since they just toss the keys that unlock the steering lock

Like I said I never heard you mention anything about the oil consumption most people do not maintain Toyota Corolla the 1.6 Corolla from 1993 all the way up to 97 Prince Royal like a b**** along with the 98 all the way to 2006 or 5 for an oil like a b**** and make engine noise in the lottery
@jimmyjimjims7483
@jimmyjimjims7483 Жыл бұрын
My 94 Corolla is a 1.8L 7AFE and it never burns any oil at all, my 95 is also a 1.8L and it also never burns any oil at all however the 93 1.8L I had burned like a quart every 2000 miles and the 99 Prizm I had burned a quart every 1000 miles. The worst offender is my 2007 Camry 2.4L which burns at least a quart every 1000 miles or more. I check my oil frequently so for me its no big deal but there is a cheap "fix" to help mitigate oil consumption. Remove all the spark plugs, dump a mix of ATF/B12/PB Blaster down each cylinder and let it sit for a few days or even a week. Turn the engine over without the plugs in and blow the remaining junk out, change the oil and put it back together. Do this 3 times. This frees up the piston rings which is the main culprit of the known oil burning issues and its worked for me on several cars, the rings get stuck and allows oil passed them and this is what causes the oil "burning" issue. If people changed their oil regularly it wouldn't even be an issue but Toyota and Suzuki piston rings are prone to gunking up
