The actor who played Proximo (the Gladiator trainer) was Oliver Reed. He was an extraordinary british actor, with a very interesting, fascinating and atypical life. He also was known for his alcoholism, having some scandals on TV and cinema as a consequence of this. During the filming of Gladiator in 1999, he sadly passed away. He had been sober for months, but one night (during a break from filming the movie) in an Irish pub in Malta (after a bet), he drank three bottles of Jamaican rum, eight bottles of German beer, numerous double whiskeys and challenged five young English sailors of the Royal Navy to arm-wrestling at The Pub bar (which after this incident was called Ollie's Last Pub). His bill, which was never paid, is preserved in a decorative frame in the bar.

Marcus Ulpius Traianus and Publius Aelius Hadrianus (both from Hispania, actual Spain), were the best and greatest emperors of the Roman Empire. Marcus Aurelius was a great one, probably the most cultured and profound, having his written testimonies as reliable proof.

Marcus Aurelius was played by the first Dumbledore, yes (Richard Harris). Harris appeared in the first two HP films, but later on died. Therefore, Michael Gambon continued playing Dumbledore in the rest of HP saga. Also, Richard Harris, had many stories of carousing and escapades with the aforementioned Oliver Reed.

good catch about the tigers in the arena. I'm not sure but it might be the first reaction I see where someone has not missed that. bread and circuses - it's an old roman saying. which is very true to this day: distract people and give them bare minimum and one will be able to take away their freedom. and people don't even notice it. ostia where the maximus' legion was encamped was an old roman seaport now in modern days is far from an shoreline. But Ostia is a place that everyone should visit, better than Rome itself. Basically it's a well preserved city from Roman times. you can feel shivers down your spine as you stay alone between buildings that look like ancient romans left them literally a min before.

British director Ridley Scott has made some cracking films. He worked with Crowe on six so far, and Phoenix on three (including the Napoleon flop). Perhaps Braveheart would be a natural follow-up. Similar plot and style.

May I respectfully suggest more goosebumps for you, courtesy of Mr. Crowe, by watching another of his cinematic products? "MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD." Britain vs. France, naval fighting in the Napoleonic era (very early 1800s). Hope you like it!

Hello, if you don’t mind, can you do a movie reaction on a movie called, 1492: Conquest of Paradise. Adventure/Drama (1992). It stars Gérard Depardieu, Siqourney Weaver, Armand Assante. It portrays a version of the travels to the New World by the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus and the effect this had on indigenous peoples. Directed by Ridley Scott.

Its funny they were showing 3 or 4 people being able to pull the chains to pull the tiger back. An average man can pull with an average high amount of about 150-200 pounds, whereas a tiger while attacking can pull with over 2000-4000 pounds of force. You would need like 10 modern men, or 13 Romans to be able to just stop the tiger from pushing forward and more to be able to pull it back.

There is no poison on the knife which stabs Maximus! Why would there be? He’s stabbed in most likely the lung and poison would make him so weak as to be unable to fight. He died from loss of blood, please.
@maggieshevelew16935 күн бұрын
Came here to say this. So many reactors seem to think there is poison. No idea why. Puncturing a lung isn’t enough?
@fernandolundy36445 күн бұрын
Some poisons act slow and are debilitating. Not all poisons kill immediately, and the Romans had knowledge of this.
@fernandolundy36445 күн бұрын
Notice how Maximus came out slow and disoriented, and from time to time drifted off and then came back to consciousness. Those symptoms are not common from just loss of blood but are more likely associated with poisoning. Maximus is a soldier, quite capable of fighting with a wound. Poisoning with the puncture wound seems very likely.

You’re kind of fixated on the fairness or lack thereof of the arena. You better let that go. Watching people die in the Coliseum wasn’t meant to be fair. It was meant to be entertaining. The unfairness of it added to the terror and agony of the victims. Thus it became more, not less, entertaining. People now are no different. Thousands watch motorsports and brutal physical contests such as hockey, rugby and American football, hoping to see someone get hurt or perhaps even die. I guarantee you if gladiatorial games came back they would have sold out stadiums. If you don’t think that’s the case, you are just fooling yourself. Even you worry about and are more upset by injuries or death of the dogs, horses and even of a vicious tiger, more than you do the humans. As I have noticed, virtually every other female reactor does. You might ask yourself why.
@Lirtzie6 күн бұрын
Well I don't agree with you. Luckily we can have our different opinions and priorities watching a movie, that is the charm with a reaction. And if you don't like it is a lot of other creators and videos to watch that may be more similar to your taste✨
@lorvaton5 күн бұрын
I understand what you are saying that gladiatorial combat was never supposed to be fair and the movie does a good job portraying this. In fact it does such a good job showing how unfair it was that almost all youtube reactors that I have seen points this out. About the beeing upset about the animal abuse to a higher deegree than the abuse against the humans it is perfectly normal reaction, humans get more upset by cruelty to animals and children than cruelty toward grown adults, there are quite a few studies done on this subject according to google.
