I just started learning Korean in June. On June 14th I took a free Hangul class with the Jeju Korean Language Center, and then on June 28th I started taking a beginner class through Yonsei University (also free which is amazing). I know I am making progress but since it's only been a month, of course it's quite slow progress. Watching this video gave me such a rush and really motivated me to see how much I can improve if I keep working at it. Thank you!

It's not too often I watch a language study blog channel and get such good news. That's great. I use iTalki too but I don't think I use it as well as you. It sounds like you found a teacher you really get along well with. I do a lot of language exchanges with Japanese people and they sometimes ask me how to improve their listening skills. I always tell them the one biggest thing you can do is to have conversations in English. And take classes all in English. Sure, listening to podcasts or watching TV can help some but it just isn't the same. There's no pressure to understand. I think that's a big part of why speaking on iTalki (or anywhere) can get such good results. But your results are just outstanding. I can't wait for the next update.

It really does depend on the type of drama and also the type of scene. I just watched the first episode of Mask girl (with korean subtitles) and I was surprised that I was actually able to follow along really well, even without having seen it with english subtitles first. And then the text messages and livestream comments came along and I went back to understanding almost nothing. I've also been watching Vincenzo with korean subtitles because at this point that's the only way I can justify rewatching it so many times. It's a struggle, but after rewatching the same episodes many many times and studying more and more of the vocab in them, I'm slowly starting to understand more. It's a whole process, but baby steps will take me far.

I actually starting my Korean classes with a tutor tomorrow via Skype, so from hearing about how much you have improved gives me hope!!! I'm afraid to say that I'm not one of those people who are 'good' at self studying as I'm the type who will ask questions about things for example, why 'ㄱ' sounds like a 'k' and sometimes sounds like a 'g'. Also why 'ㅂ' sometimes sounds like a 'b' and other times a 'p' unless there are rules for that which I'm sure if there are I'll learn along the way. So I guess I am far more accustomed to learning from a teacher (oldskool). But anyways great to hear that you feel that your Korean has improved! Many thanks for your inspiration from the UK! :D. Also Natalia, have you come across a book called Sejong Korean 1? I think it is from the King Sejong Institute, but I'm not sure. My niece gave me the book to learn from, but just wondering if you have had any experience of it? Many thanks!

Hmmm while I can't speak from experience, I'd say it would be helpful regardless of your level. I think if you've studied Hangul already then getting a teacher in the beginning would help you better develop your speaking and listening skills then you could while self-studying. I self-studied Korean as a beginner, and while I think it's 100% possible to do it on your own, had I had a teacher, I definitely would have developed my "active" skills more quickly.

For the record I know pretty much 5 words in Korean.😅 However, in 4 years time I will of studied it full time and been to Korea to study there...😲😄 There is a certain kind of strange fun to be found when you set a huge challenge for yourself If you say "It's impossible for me to ever learn (fill in the blank) so i won't even start trying" then you have truely failed. You truely never know what you're capable of until you work hard for a dream!

I started to use italki for my Russian language after I saw recommendation of this app on your YT channel and I have to say after approximately 15 lessons with same teacher, I can really see the progress. I understand him a bit more, I am more confident to talk even about the things I never imagined I will be able to talk (like Czech social system, judgment of the German Constitutional Court, international air law). Last time we did translation of lease agreement. I am still sometimes a bit tired to speak whole lesson, so I help myself with English, but I feel I use it less and less. I would like to start use italki also for Korean, when I will get on some better level (I had online group clasess for beginners this spring and I will continue with them on fall).

@@NataliaGarza Well you know, it's not like I am able to describe everything in detail, but even speaking about these topic generally makes me feel quite pride of myself :D. And mainy Czech and Russian are both Slavic languages, so it's totally easier than learning different kind of language like Korean (but sometimes I feels some things strangely works similarly). My second Rusian book I read after Cindraella was Harry Potter and Philosopher's Stone (so from nothing to whole book with strange magical expresion). Anyway I am really grateful for your YT, it's nice to see, where you can get, if you put energy and time into studying 💜!

I don't know if this will help, but am currently on level 6 of TTMIK and have finished KGIU Beginner, so a bit below your level, and have been taking italki lessons for the last month or so - I think it depends on which area do you consider to be your weakest and if it's something you want to perfect - my main struggle was listening comprehension, pronounciation and making my sentences sound more natural (vs you-can-tell-i-translated-it-from-english-to-korean-in-my-head), and that's exactly what I told my teacher! If ur just learning Hangul you could defiantly learn that on ur own. After that I think it depends how u are as a learner. I learned Hangul and very basic stuff on my own but I learn by having stuff fully explained to me so having teachers I could ask for understanding as to why grammar is the way it is and stuff is how my Korean improved dramatically
@NataliaGarza

Lots of learners take classes as absolute beginners~ I think if you've already learned Hangul that's great! I feel like that is definitely something that would be more cost effective to learn on your own~ I think whether you decide to get a teacher or not is something you would need to decide on your own, but I will say that most beginners quit learning because the either feel lost, encounter a challenge, or lose motivation. A teacher can help alleviate some of these obstacles

I'm only 16 years old and I want to be a translator when I will get older, so I can't do these classes,and I'm so sad☹️. I want so much to learn Korean and Japanese but in my country (especially in my town) there's no teacher, so I self study, which I think can't help me learn a WHOLE NEW LANGUAGE... I'm so desperate and I can do nothing 😞😞😞

It can be really difficult to learn with k dramas because I'm learning formal korean but in most shows 85-90% of the time, they are speaking informally. So when i read the subtitle I'm like "i know this phrase so why didn't i understand" but its actually spoken informally

I am using hippocrene beginners Korean for formal language (니까 )(시오)(습니다) And talk to me in Korean for informal language (세요)(이에요) (예요) I'm a beginner but I honestly want to learn basic words and learn Advanced synonyms for those basic words at the same time, too. I know that Asian cultures stress higher education, and so as I study this culture and language,I want to live up to that standard.

Yahoo 18min late ;-; I've been taking classes on Amazing Talker lately I'm not sure how to use Italki but I think Italki is cheaper than Amazing Talker? Cuz I found out abt de app few months back on it ads😂😂 but I feel like Amazing Talker ish rather expensive Edit: on the word Talker cuz there were double l LOL 7:46 A Love So Beautiful (remake drama frm de Chinese ver.) Kim YoHan😂😂😂😂 8:17 Love Alarm S2? or S1 but ye Kim SoHyun I recommend you to watch School 2015 it's dam noiceeee I'm using SNU 1A Textbook and my teacher taught me till Unit 3;-; and am deciding to change to a new teacher that can continue to teach me from Unit 4. Before I took a class on Amazing Talker, I wasn't studying Korean consistently and I kept taking breaks but only when I had classes online, I study almost every day or I'll study Korean for 3days so yeah. Actually taking online classes help me to study consistently as like before that, my SNU book I didn't even touch them LOL and my Korean did improve cuz for me if I self-study, I'll give up aft 5min LOL and idh friends that learn Korean HAHA

Hmmm for me it's all about 1) what they have on their credentials and 2) the vibe they give off in the intro video on their teacher profile. When it comes to teachers, I prefer professional teachers that are native speakers and speak English, so I filter the teachers based on those criteria. Then I take a look at what classes the remaining teachers offer. Not every teacher offers the same type of classes, so it's important to see what types of classes they're offering and what they've written in the class description. If I like the description of the class(es) I'm interested in, I'll watch their intro video to get a feel for the vibe the teacher has. I also look at their availability. If a teacher only teachers a few hours a day or only twice a week, then I pass on them even if I think I'd like them. The reason I do this is that teachers with such limited availability are either not teaching full-time and could end up leaving the platform OR they will become difficult to book classes with as they gain students. (It takes a several classes for a teacher to get a good grasp of your level and for you to feel comfortable with them, so only being able to take a class with them every other week because they're always booked is a no-go for me.)

선생님 질문 있어요 how can we say in Korean "I don't want to" for example "I don't want to sleep" "I don't want to leave Korea" reply by video please
@tteokkochi2084
@tteokkochi2084 2 жыл бұрын
To explain briefly, you would use the "-고 싶다" form to express something you want to do. For example "하고 싶어요" = I want to do it ""먹고 싶어요" = I want to eat "자고 싶어요" = I want to sleep "가고 싶어요" = I want to go If you want to say "I don't want to...", one way you can say it is by negating this form. You can say either "-고 싶지 않다" or "안 -고 싶다" "하고 싶지 않아요" and "안 하고 싶어요" I don't want to do (it). "먹고 싶지 않아요" and "안 먹고 싶어요" = I don't want to eat. "자고 싶지 않아요" and "안 자고 싶어요" = I don't want to sleep
