They are just leaving something else because they want freedom or opportunity for themselves. But then, not having ever had those things, they don't know what to do with them. And let's face it, many are just want an easier life, and they don't care how the government is supposed to work or to be maintained by the citizens. They don't make the connection between government changing here and the eventual downfall that was in the place they came from. Even within the U.S. there are people who were brought up in a welfare or a criminal household, and when they become adults, they have a hard time shaking off the effects of culture and the way they were taught. And I guess this lady never really suffered under the regime where she was a Young Communist, and she never came to see any real harm in it. Of course, she would be part of the ruling class here. I guess it's why those types of government persist even when history has revealed them to be fundamentally flawed. It's true that she should know better, but so should our own citizens. We have no scarcity of naive and uneducated socialists, but we also have "experts" who are really coming down on the wrong side of things. Since this woman has been working on a university campus, she probably has a bubble of people around her who feel just as she does. That's the scariest thing about her views coming to light. She isn't alone in them. Hopefully, we will dodge the bullet this time, but it's kind of horrifying that she was nominated to begin with.
