The filter: wow. Just wow. Used to spend my Saturday mornings looking through the electronic components hanging on the wall of my local Tandy store. That thing has been there at least 20 yrs, probably more like 40. And they haven’t even taken it out of the packet!!! It is for mains, but Like others have said, it’s supposed to be in the piece of equipment, not part of the wiring installation. Completely pointless now as equipment all has to be CE compliant (with emi filtration built in…)
@Pressureradio
@Pressureradio 2 жыл бұрын
That EMI filter in the loft is for use in equipment to stop interferience from other sources on the mains, used in a lot of computer equipment etc. so sinsensitive signals and data doesnt get currupted by interferience. p.s. I like the weekly (shout out Ashville) format. keep up the geat work.

Hi Nick, It could possibly be a band pass filter to stop interfierence from people like Radio Amatures or CB'ers. Although I have never sen one quite like this, Being a Radio Amature myself I have fitted lots of filters to peoples TV's to prevent interfierence. It could also be a frequency amplifier to boost the signal to the ariel, or it could be to stop interfierence from other mains equipment.

That's a capacitor inductor noise filter and it's only rated for 5A at 120V. But then it says 250 I'm confused either way it's an AC line noise filter that's never been removed from the package. At least it's fused assuming it's got the right fuse in it however that style fuse connector should only be used in DC as you can come in contact with live parts as the cable can slide through.

That's a mains RF filter. Usually seen inside electronics to filter incomming mains supply, or make sure noise does not escape back into mains from the device. Not for antennas or such. Very strange to see it installed so badly, not even removed from it's packaging and live parts exposed. That's the definition of a bodge!
@dolphinpix
@dolphinpix 2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, that is a Chassis Mount RFI Filter. Odd install because if someone knows enough about RF interference, why is it installed in its packaging? Looking what its next to, am guessing when someone presses the door bell, they got lines/noise and junk on a TV or radio, The cure go round to Tandy and the sales person says you need one of these. (Failing to tell them it needs putting in a proper enclosure, the can needs earthing (to even work properly)...
@pichacker
@pichacker 2 жыл бұрын
@@dolphinpix 100% agree about the case earthing. I was wondering if it was installed by a radio ham (I am one too) in an attempt to filter out interference from a light fitting when trying to listen on HF?? I would say it would not be of any use in removing interference from external sources in reality. However so saying when I used to run 100W HF mobile there was a house where if I transmitted SSB I could make their bedroom light turn on and change brightness :) This was in addition to the number of cheap burglar alarms or PIRs that I could activate at a considerable distance.
@dolphinpix
@dolphinpix 2 жыл бұрын
@@pichacker I'd hate to see the rig of a radio ham who installed something like this... The radio would still be in its box ;) Then again, if you think about it, this is a genius install, you've increased the Ebay resale value - you can list it - as new sealed in original packing :) Still think its trying to remove electrical noise from a rubbish door bell.
@dolphinpix
@dolphinpix 2 жыл бұрын
Looking more closely at it again, was it feeding an alarm panel? again trying to stop junk on the mains setting the alarm off? mind the junk on the mains might be local from the arcing in the local quality install ;)

Adam deserves a medal, actually no, a pay rise.......The stuff he has to put up with, he reorganises the shelves, they look great, then Nick puts stuff in the wrong place. Adam bringing materials into the unit to put away but he can't get past Nick who's just standing about gassing away to the camera. Adam just works away, never complains. I hope Nick realises just what an asset Adam is to the business.

Adding a mezzanine will allow you to install decent studio lighting. A simple curtain across the doorway will block light from the rest of the unit. And it’ll give you more storage - you’ve nearly run out.

IKEA could not be more annoying when it comes to their pendant fittings. They expect you to have a spare hook that you have to put where the cable is coming through the ceiling. I also had to go to B&Q and got a threaded hook that I bolted onto the old fitting bracket that allowed me to use the old screw holes whilst keeping the hook at the centre of a plaster ceiling rose. What IKEA stupidly do not tell you is that they have designed a very good bracket that they sell for £0.25. Ideally they would just include their bracket and charge extra for the fitting.

I would asume that the inverter in the powerbank has a high consumption and with such little load a terrible efficiency. If you would use 12V lights you should get way more time out of it. DC/DC converters can be 98% efficient.

Is anyone going to guess what's in the big box? 1. A tardis, as Nick has a walk-on part for the next series. 2. 19" Rack but no idea why it would be used. 3. A large closet for Adam to come out of (kidding...;-) ) 4. One-man shower cubical with perspex glass. ( footnote: For Adam's only fan's channel!) 5. A pop-out stand that expands for a Bundy Electrical roadshow tour coming later this year.
