This is a look back at Summer of 2021 for Wudang White Horse Academy. We purchased land in Eastern Oregon, Territory of the Klamath Tribes, to build training grounds for the school, a place for students to immerse themselves in the Daoist Arts and Wudang Gong Fu, and find the lost ways of the Sacred. We ran our first 3 week immersion program at that site in June, and on the final day of the course the Bootleg Fire erupted only 4 miles away to the West on Fuego Mountain caused by lightning strike. We immediately evacuated and could not take the entire camp and school infrastructure with us. The fire made a high intensity crown run through the camp only 24 hours later. This fire resulted in the loss of 415,000 acres of National Forest. Our second immersion program in August had to be moved to an alternate site, but we did take a 3 day field trip out to the burned training grounds. Students helped me to grieve from the devastation, the loss, and to heal, to plant yampa seeds, and to train the arts we had been learning. In this video you will see images from before the fire and after the fire. You will see beautiful short-lived memories, a micro-apocolypse, and a new dawn to gaze towards on the horizon.
We are restoring infrastructure and hope to run classes on site again no later than 2023, and possibly summer of 2022. We will begin to integrate reforestation, wild tending, and natural building experiences into our warrior journey. Until then, you can find our immersion courses at our alternate location in Cave Junction, OR.
