If you don't catch duplicate Pokemon, you can't evolve them :< you evolve them by having certain amount of candy, and you get candy by catching them and transferring them.

Pokemon Go tips for Oli or anyone really: -It's easier to aim and actually hit the Pokemon with the Pokeball if you flick with your opposite hand and not the thumb of the hand holding your phone - If you do miss and see your Pokeball rolling away, you can tap it on the screen and get it back -You should catch everything you see, even if you already have some of the same type. You can trade in duplicates for candy, which can be used to evolve/power up your Pokemon. Plus the more you catch the faster you level up -Pokestops are your friend. Even if you have a bunch of Pokeballs, having too many is better than having none when you need them. -It's not necessary to buy things like lures/revives because you get them for free when you level up -If you do want to buy stuff, you can get coins by leaving your Pokemon in gyms (if you're level 5 and up). -Never leave your most poweful (highest CP) Pokemon in a gym. You need that one to fight. Leave your 2nd or 3rd

the reason your battery was draining quickly was because when you see a pokemon your camera is on if you turn off your camera it will save battery and if you go into settings and turn on battery saver it will help even more

Oli you need duplicate Pokemon to evolve them, that way you get more "insert pokemon name" candy. YOu can exchange duplicate pokemon for one of their type of candy by transferring them to the professor, to do that just go on one of your duplicates and sroll down to the bottom, it'll say transfer click that then yes for more "insert pokemon name" candy
