I CAUGHT then COOKED this TRASH FISH! Wade Fishing Galveston (Catch and Cook)

We went Wade Fishing in Galveston Bay for Speckled trout. The bite was slow but we ended up catching a lot of sand trout to take home for the catch clean and cook part of the video. Sand trout are considered trash fish by most people and not what we typically try to catch. But they taste delicious and are super abundant in Galveston. We made some delicious fried fish po boys! My wife and I hit a school of sand trout by Moses Lake. We didn't keep anything smaller than 12 inches. Some were so big they were pulling drag on my Garcia 6000. We kept over 40 and had a family fish fry later!

Fished there ALL the time from '93 through '07. Was great throughout the year, always able to get specks, reds, and flounder. Would walk all the way out to the end of the island off the beach and head straight out. Nice to see it on vid.

Fresh sandtrout were a lot of fun mixed with whiting and some croaker. Frozen sandies not even gumbo worthy. Also Slap Ya Mama seasonings are a fave.

I catch a lot of speckled trout across the way in Tampa area. Fun for sure. I've never caught a sand trout though!

The method he uses keeps the fish alive a bit longer.

You can do it either way, I just usually go through the lips because it’s quicker then going through the gills and does seem to keep them alive longer. If you string up a trout though definitely make sure to go through both lips not just one as they can fall off because of their soft mouths!

yall say sand trout & in Louisiana we call then white trout. i find its a myth of mushy meat. ive froze them mutliple times & never mushy.
