Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

its just that the blocks can't visibly update position & redraw in sync with each other, at extreme speed like that the desync between sections of the vehicle is amplified so you can see it. Or at least that's a valid theory.

The United States Air Force attempted this challenge IRL and they made a plane that was so loud that would make people throw up within like a mile radius. I think it was so unbearable to be around that they never even tested how fast it could go. I think, I'm 100% sure it only got around 700 kilometers an hour, a cool KZbinr called dark skies did a video about it.

The p-38 Lightning was a prop powered plane that could break the sound barrier in a dive. Only problem was that if you did, you couldn't pull out of it and would crash.

To cover the most distance in the test map, you would need to travel between the opposite corners due to the Pythagoras theorem

The fastest I have gone on the test map was 4800-5000 on land from corner to corner diagonally with thrusters(glitch-less) and didn't reach its top speed.

I don't know why, because P-51 mustangs could break 560 km/h, and in the game you need a bunch of propellers to get close to 560 km/h.

If you want a lore reason lets say it's because the p51 can have propellers tuned for the speed it intends to go whereas trailmakers only has one prop. The real reason is of course that the aero dynamic model in the game is calibrated for fun rather than reality!

@@mitchellbaker4847 Challenge was that it has to be mainly props. So nope, at least not as its main speed gainer and it would, if it counted, be in a separate Category. Like Vanilla/glitch/gravity assisted. But would have been fun, dang i now wish i had participated, because, ja i was thinking on splitting the speed halve Props, halve Gravity, but didn't cause i was on Scrapmans Discord and the discussion there discouraged me to use Gravity. And my Testplanes didn't even go over 300… aah well 🤷

Actually a man once broke the sound barrier in a P-51 Mustang in a straight down dive the P-51 is a WW2 plane.

The MiG-15 was barely capable of getting close to the sound barrier. If it did, it would suffer compression so bad the pilot wouldn’t be able to stop the plane before it hit the ground. So I am going to have to call BS on that.

I build a land speeder and quickly found the drag of all wedges needed kinda nullified the doubling of props. So knew I'm not going to get faster than 730ish so I gave up.

4:20 There is no sound of the plane in front o you, becouse the craft's sound can not get to the camere. at the sides and begind the sound fades in, becouse it entered the shock cone. P.S. The faster you go the narrower the cone gets.

Without double checking i think its actually theoretically possible to break the sound barrier with propellers but that would require materials/machinery we just don’t have. Unless I’m misremembering anyhow.

its easier with rotating servos. the fastest glitch in the game involves making two rotating servos fight eachother. you can hit around 200,000 mph if you combine it with the nodrag glitch.

I love this, but at one point scrapman said that propeller planes can’t break the sound barrier in real life, for flying speed yes that’s true, but there has has been a propeller plane that’s propeller broke the sound barrier just idling.

Supposedly the British mosquitoes from WW2 could break the sound barrier. They were a plane made from wood framing with two huge radial prop engines. There are some stories of them doing so by accident while in steep dives. Obviously this was before we knew what it was so maybe it wasn’t and just stories but who knows!

This is insane! You can do a new challenge where use this glitch for hit the maximum speed of the game, probably works even on jet engine

Correct. The fastest (controllable) plane I have made hits around 4000mph while doing loops around the campaign island. this is not however the maximum speed in the game. there is a second glitch where you make two rotating servos fight each other that can hit speeds of 200,000 mph, but there is no controlling that.

I really wish I could've been a contender in this challenge, but I'm on ps4 and the game isn't cross platform and neither Is the workshop, so it is literally impossible to send it to scrapman. ☹ Really wish trailmakers would AT LEAST, join the workshop together, which would motivate me much more to build cool stuff in this game

Perhaps if we had more control over prop angle we might get better results. As it is, this seems to be the limit. Also, I'd like to know how accurate these props are to the real world physics in relation to thrust, drag, etc. I think trying to compare a game to real world variants is pointless if the numbers don't match completely.

The propeller physics is terrible. The blades don't have collisions with anything, and they basically function like a retextured mini thruster.

There is a prop plane called the spitfire griffon from the British air force a d it has broken the sound barrier or mach 1. It was assisted by gravity but it can happen. Also the higher you go the slower you can go to break mach 1 so it just depends

You should try making a glider that can go from the center of the map to the border. I should add the rules. 1 the glider cannot use engines or jet propulsion 2 the glider cannot be dropped from an aircraft . Notes. The glider may be launched from a something that can’t move. The glider can use powered aero parts .

You know, you're going to have to do a video where you use the "no drag glitch"...because as seen by the winner of the glitch comp, it's a whole lot more than just a no drag glitch, it's a ghost parts glitch, and probably a good way to create mechanisms that don't have to be attached to the vehicle.

Create one with the glitch that once in the air adds a slight bend and see how fast you can get it without the edge of the map being an issue

thats not how these props work in the game. they are basically jet engines with a different animation
