That is correct and that's why Metalmorph was not destroyed. Since Metalmorph is last in the chain, it activates first. Granmarg effect no longer sees it as set. Hence why Metalmorph was not popped. It's also why Granmarg was the weakest of the Monarch line.

Granmarg The Rock Monarch has always sucked. I remember this card from back in the day upon it's release, so here's how it works. Yes you did indeed target a face down card, however unlike most cards that say "destroy that card" in which case said targeted card would get destroyed regardless of it being flipped face up or not, Granmarg says "destroy that target" since the card was flipped upon activation the "target" was lost, therefore Granmarg's effect no longer destroys that target. Another card that suffers this same situation sadly is Nobleman of Extermination. Now you know.
