Jake Barraclough, aka "Ran To Japan"
⚠️ Train Harder, Not Smarter.
🇬🇧 Documenting my life ‘on the run’ in Japan!
So recently, I won my first race in Japan, a local 10k in 30:31. But today we’ll upping the levels as I take on some of Tokyo’s fastest 10k runners, while attempting to decimate the 30 minute barrier. How many pro athletes can a mere amateur put away? It’s time to take some BIG scalps! 🎯

Came here straight after seeing the accidental Half PB - Bro is on another level rn 📈 Also the prizes you get in Japanese races are epic, you've got so many cool items from races now. The recovery plasters you were talking about are called "shippu" (しっぷ)

The Japanese guru - thank you sensei 🎌 It’s so random you just never know what’s gonna be in those prize bags! Gotta love it. I’ve still not checked out what I got from that half yesterday but I’ll get the unboxing on cam 🫡

On my mere 140km weeks, a 10km day is the rest/recovery day. So for a 250km per week runner, 12km would feel like a holiday.

Good to see the non-stop work and tackling of multiple races! Also great point mentioned in the previous video, about cutting out alcohol. We know it has the effect of thinning blood, which is the exact opposite of what we want during training. Less red blood cells = less oxygen! Much easier to get volume in and recover without it.

Urea cream is for the feet. It may sound weird, but soldiers are taught to pee on their feet to avoid fungal infections. So the urea cream is a cleaner way of doing the same thing. The cream also softens dry skin, and could potentially be used to avoid blisters.

@@ludovicvilain1509 legend, cheers for getting the word out 🙌 What I mean is if you look at the very best ultra runners (I don’t know too much about the trail stuff but like 100km, 100mi, 24hrs etc.) they’re 2:15-2:20 marathon guys at best - I think if any of the top marathoners chose to move up distances they’d absolutely destroy all the ultra world records! But yeah I think the technical mountainous courses might be a different story. Obviously Killian is a machine over those 🦾
