I have been T1 diabetic for 51 years. Obviously I have seen quite an evolution in my treatment tools. I have only had a pump for 3 years & CGM for 2 years. I also use T Slim & still use Dexcom G5. I am anxious for the ability of my pump & CGM to communicate and control insulin output. Danica, I enjoy your channel and have learned much about our disease. KEEP up the good work, the control/treatment of our disease is in OUR CONTROL. Byron

I use the Medtronic. I have a learning disability in math so I like the fact that it automatically calculates how much insulin when I type in my carbs and BG.

670G is a VG pump BUT the CGM, IMO, is still in its infancy compared to Dexcom. My DR convinced me to switch to Medtronic CGM system and after NINE months I had 11 CGM sensor failures and it required an average of SEVEN finger pricks daily. I hated it and bit the bullet financially, I switch to Tamden and Dexcom and LOVE it so far. Thanks for the video

I’m right now using the brand new Medtronic 780 G and it’s amazing, the CGM connects to a mobile device and you can share your actual glucose witch other people. The best thing about the 780 G it’s the fact that it adjusts the basal and gives you bolus when you are high

I started using the Medtronic 670g back in July 2018. I have been very frustrated by the number of fingersticks required to keep this pump in check. Most days I would stick my fingers between 7 - 12 times a day. Also, I constantly had to recalibrate the CGM because it was so inaccurate. 2 months ago, I switched from the Medtronic Guardian 3 CGM to the Dexcom G6 and am very happy. I am getting much better control.... and this without auto-mode. I will be switching to the t:slim x2 in the near future and using the Control-IQ. Danica, thank you for all your videos. They have been helpful!!

really don't understand why so many love to hate on the Medtronic 670G, especially when they have never tried it. mine works great and auto mode lowered my A1C from 8.7 to 5.9. usually if a doctor tells you which one to chose it means they are getting a kick back in the form of money from that company for getting you to but their pump.

Completely agree!! I’m a former animas pumper (for 13 years!) and decided to try Medtronic. I’ve really disliked how frequently it required calibrations + extra BGs + tons of alarms. I’m currently in the process of changing from Medtronic 670 to Tandem. Excited for this new pump for sure!

I started out on a Cozmo Pump, went to Minimed (pre-Medtronic), Wend to Animas Ping then Vibe, had a huge stupid attack and went to Omnipod because the Tandem Sales department really honked me off. Recently decided Omnipod just wasn't doing the job and my t:Slim X2 arrived yesterday. I'm waiting for the reservoirs and infusion sets and I'll be ready for training. My only concern is that their sales department are overly pushy and do not take the time to listen to the patient talking to them. Had they listened to me I could have been switched over 6 months ago. I'm really hoping that all that is behind me now and that my actual rep that's assigned to me is more personable. Danica, your video's have been so motivating to me and I'm so glad I found your channel.

I was a pump user at one time. I had a Medtronic/Minimed pump and the first one I had worked wonderfully. I had lots of problems with the new one after the originally went out of warranty and it quit working for some reason and I ended up in the ICU with a BG of 1200. I have been afraid to go back on the pump since, so I'm back to the shots. I use Novolog for my daytime Insulin and Tresiba for my basal insulin. I'll be watching your journey with the Tandem before I discuss it with my Endo and Diabetic Educator. Thanks for doing these wonderful videos young lady.

I finally opted to get a pump after 25 years of being a Diabetic. I had been on shots for so long, it was all I knew. I did try a pump when I was 12, but it always got knocked off and the infusions sites would get pulled out. I just hated it so much and went back to shots shortly after. It wasn't until I got married and talked to my doctors about starting a family that I decided a pump was my best option. I had NO idea there were so many options!! I ultimately went with the Omnipod for several reasons, mostly because it's tubeless. From my previous experience, I did not want another tubed pump. I also love the fact that you don't ever have to see or manually insert any needles with the pods. I love that you can wear the pod 24/7 and not have to take it off to swim or shower. My educators also told me it's a very good pump to have while pregnant and my health team were all on the same page in saying it was probably the best option for me. (It's also the only pump my insurance would cover.) Plus I don't have a dexcom, so I didn't need something compatible with it. I do have the freestyle Libre though and that's making such a HUGE difference in my diabetic life. :) The tandem was my second choice. I really liked the look of it and even downloaded the preview app, but I just couldn't face dealing with the tubes, the infusion sites, and all that. I agree with you though that all the pumps available in the U.S. have awesome perks! I hope you like your Tandem and hope it does well for you!

Im a 45 year old woman T1D for 35 years, I stumbled upon your videos when I first got a Dex years ago. Me-"wait wha? How do I insert this thing again? Wait wha? These are expensive and I can't have a mishap. Wait wha? I have no real estate left on my stomach!". Me-doing a random Google search to find Danica with all the answers. Anyway, the point is -please know you are an inspiration to young and "old". I will never forget when I was diagnosed at 10 the doc saying "don't worry there will be a cure to this soon.". Well -here we all are. I love love love that you are out there as a source of inspiration, advocation, and realism. I wish I had this growing up but am thankful I have it now. **Once again -stumbled upon one of your videos after leaving a new Endo office today with a rec of this pump. Doing my research and here you are Danica. I'm leaving Medtronic after 15 years, And FYI to all-Dex is the best invention EVER. And to the post below me-EVERY Medtronic has cracked that way for me -from the very 1st reservoir change out. The CGMs are awful and not worth the cost. Actually you couldn't pay me to use one. Total nightmare. But I am thankful for their excellent costumer service over the years(truly). Thanks again Danica! First time I have commented on KZbin. Well deserved. I'm getting a T-Slim BTW.

I also left Animas and decided to go with Medtronic 670 due to the auto feature. I’ve had this with the guardian ccm sensor for a little over a year now. I think I have only had 3 sensors that have lasted 7 days! Most have only lasted 3-4 days but have been replaced with no questions by Medtronic. It has been very annoying to have to replace the sensor every few days. Everyone I talk to that are using dexcom, are still getting up to 10 days from a sensor without issues. Hopefully something will come along so I can look at switching again, and get a dexcom supported pump without spending thousands! Hope everything is going great with your pump!

You made the right choice not going with Medtronic. I had wished that I had chosen the TSlim. The 670G with the Guardian CGM is the worst choice that I could have made when replacing my Animas Vibe. The Guardian requires too many fingerstick calibrations and was still always way off. I had to fight to get back to Dexcom (I have used G4, G5, and now the dream G6), and ultimately opted for the out-of -pocket cost of it. That's how much I HATE Guardian. After all, what good does it do to have a CGM that never knows my BG?!? I'm currently stuck with 670G until October but I'm loving it to be back on Dexcom G6. I am choosing OmniPod's newly upgraded unit. The idea of finally being wireless with their smaller pod has my full attention. OmniPod just keeps improving!

I too am a T-Slim user, and have been for several years. It works well and is very reliable. The cartridges are easy to use, especially when I have to refill while I'm at work (I push the limits). I've gotten used to the tubing from my pants pocket to under my shirt since my infusion sites work best on my stomach (the nature of my body). I've had an X2 for a little over a year, but don't really use it with my Dexcom G5 as I use X-Drip on my phone. It's overall a great pump, and I love the touch screen and IOB information. Very easy for me to setup and match my basal to my schedule. I chose Tandem for pretty much the same reasons you did, and it took me 2 months and a lot of agonizing to get there.

Danica, you've made a great choice. For anyone trying to decide between the Medtronic and the T-Slim we've been using the Medtronic 670g for over two years. We found the Medtronic pump to be very reliable. But the Medtronic Guardian 3 sensors are a nightmare. The Guardian 3 sensors are very inaccurate and on average we get about 5.5 days out of a sensor. The sensors work well for some people but not for us. Can't wait to switch to Dexcom and T-Slim.

Hi Danica, Because I am active and do so much lifting the Endo and I decided on Omnipod because it has no IV tube to get snagged. Before I starting using a pump I was running A1C's of mid 7's. I have been pumping for over 30 years and am currently on the Med670G. While the tslim does NOW use the DexcomG6 sensors, it does NOT have the ability to auto increase your basal amounts when the system detects that you are starting to climb. I hear that the TS will be rolling that feature out sometime this year. That being said, I have not tried the G6, but have tried the G5 which was not always accurate either. Until the TS implements the auto increase in the Basal amounts, I'll continue to use the Med670G even though it consistently reads 20 points lower than what my meter reads and is considerably off if not calibrated a few times a day. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I simply do not trust Dexcoms claim that you never have to calibrate the G6.

I am on the Medtronic Minimed and in March 2020 I get to pick my new one, I was excited about the Auto Mode for the 670G but now that I hear reviews of the extra testing and fight to stay in auto mode....I am leaning towards the Tslim. I like the idea of upgrading the Software to get additional features like auto mode, rather than upgrading the Hardware. From what I have heard and read there are more tests that need to happen when you get kicked out of Auto Mode. If you are like me and during the night I sometimes spike I would be alerted, woken up and forced to test. I am not good when I get woken up night after night...That is not appealing to me. I am hoping here in Canada, that we get the TSLIM with the G6 approved...still pending here....not sure why it is taking so long....and then the SW update to get the Auto Mode will be shortly after...I hear Q4 2020. So right now I would agree with your choice but have to wait for march for full coverage of my new pump. Thanks for your video. I agree with your comments. Cheers!!

Thank you so much for your evaluations and sharing the ins and outs. I too have used Animas most of my pumping life and now have to get a new pump with Animas leaving the market. It was just sort of given from my doctor's office that I would go to the Medtronic, but I was very leery of the auto mode after seeing a demo. I've been looking at different people's evaluations, and the overwhelming majority do not like the 670g. I always try to get both sides of an issue, and it's been very helpful to have actual users give their evaluations.

The Dexcom G6 is far and away the best CGM. In a perfect world the folks at Medtronic would allow their pump to be driven by the G6. We have a 670G, but use it manually with the Dexcom. Once the T-Slim is fully integrated with the Dexcom it will be the go to system.

I am currently using the Omnipod and now want to switch to the tslim. Have heard so many great things about this pump!! I have been on the Omnipod for 2 years and it was my first pump ever. I think it's a great pump and the only reason i'm hesitant about switching to something else is because every other pump isn't tubeless. That is an awesome feature of the Omnipod. I do have to say though, that the technology just isn't there with Omnipod (maybe/hopefully in the future it will be). I also wear the Dexcom G6 (which i absolutely love), so i am excited to see how the tslim and Dexcom work together. Just wanted to put out my thoughts on what i currently use. Great video!!!

Tim, OmniPod will be syncing with Dexcom G6 Fall 2019/winter2019/2020 and will have a closed loop by spring 2020 called OmniPod Horizon. Both using the OmniPod Dash system. Also Summer 2019 they will have iOS apps that you will be able to see your PDM data and share your PDM data with up to 12 others.. but ONLY with the OmniPod Dash system (which I use).

Got my T-Slim about a month ago and it’s been working great. The fact that it will be a closed loop system sometime this year and I never have to change a battery we’re the main reasons for choosing the T-Slim. When I started pumping 9 years ago, I couldn't choose: the various options really didn't mean much in the abstract. My endo recommended Medtronic, so that's what I got. Stayed with Medtronic because now that I know what the various features are, I don't see a dramatic difference between brands. As you wisely note, what works great for me may just not feel comfy enough for you. I'm glad there are multiple models to choose among. Do Dexcom users really not do any finger sticks at all? I do at least 4 a day, and calibrate before each meal. Auto mode seems happy enough with that. I have two things I'd change about the 670G system: Allow the user to set the 'minimum delivery' setting to a more A1c-friendly 100, and have a 'I am going to be in the car' button so the alarm doesn't go off when I can't reach it. Other than that, it's OK enough. I'm very interested in a DIY artificial pancreas though!

Been a while since I posted. I have added the Dexcom G6 to my management since 12-17-18 so I'm still new to this. Having the device alert me when BG is approaching my limits is a HUGE bonus. On occasions my sugars would crawl lower and lower until I was unable to do anything about it. Now I have something to slap me before trouble hits. My Animas Vibe pump is working great and will stay in service until warranty expires. Tried switch to T-slim IQ but because I'm on Medicare, I would have to pay full retail. I will wait. The FDA cert had also not been finalized for the "IQ" features. I will wait. I am with you on the T-slim and that will be my future pump. Hope your diabetic successes keep coming. I was Animas user and I liked it (A1Cs in the 5.7-6.2 range). I have been trying the 670g for three months now. Overall I think it does what it promises to do... BG stays really FLAT during the night and I have never woken up higher than 140. Also, I am experiencing 0 to 1% time under 70 compared to 7-12% with the Animas. Guardiam sensor is ok: precision is good (slightly better than my previous Dexcom G4), however it is tricky to insert. And yes, it requires 3-4 calibrations per day bu overall I think my quality of life has improved and time in range has moved from middle 70s to high 80s%: let's see next A1C! Downsides are that it is pretty bulky, auto mode completely fails in managing dual wave boluses (you have to switch to manual), it rings if you do not responde to vibration alarms within some minutes (may be embarassing) and infusion sets are slightly more painful.

I started on my first pump now 2 years ago, and did end up going with Medtronic. I really liked the idea of the Omnipod, but when my trainer and I did the initial calculations of how much insulin I would take daily, the Pod wouldn't hold that amount for it to last me 3 days. So I'd end up buying double the amount of Pods per month and spending quite a bit more on them. (In hindsight, I'd be completely fine with the 200 units because I use less than that in 3 days...oh well) I also needed something affordable and that would offer payment plans because I just don't have the money to shell out for a pump and all the supplies. With Tandem being a smaller company, my trainer didn't think that they'd be able to offer a payment plan. So Medtronic it was. I started on the 630G and went on their Pathways program to be able to upgrade to the 670 when it became available. The pump definitely has its downfalls (asking for random "BG Required" to stay in Auto Mode, throwing the user into a calibration loop), but when I can wake up in the morning and see almost a totally straight line on my CGM graph, that pretty much makes it worth it. And there are ways around the loop. I'll be interested to see how the future pumps continue to build on their own tech and try to "out-do" their competition.

I made the decision to get a Medtronic 670G last year and I regret that decision. The CGM is really annoying and it doesn’t work very well. If it is off and you calibrate, it won’t accept it and if you do it twice, you waste the sensor. I don’t understand that because I thought calibration is to get it on the right track. I am going back to Dexcom G6 and just going to use the pump as a pump. I guess I can get the Tandem in 2022.

Having the Medtronic 670G I must say I can't live without the auto-mode. I have read that all the additional fingersticks the Medtronic requires are a requirement the FDA required for safety. Supposedly they will go away with future updates, but we'll see. 🤔 I also must say, wow, you were able to stick with Animas for that long? I've been using insulin pumps for about 12 years and have had 6 different models. The model I had prior to the 670G and 630G was an Animas pump. I could not get rid of that thing fast enough! Ugh, it was so much harder to use than even my old Medtronic pump. So many more button presses to do the same things! I am super interested in the Tslim pumps though. I almost chose that option over Medtronic but really wanted the auto basal! Wow, that ^ is wordy! Good luck with your new pump ⛽ I hope it's awesome! I look forward to your updates on it.

Most of us get their pumps chosen for them via insurance. I've used Medtronic's pumps for the last 23 years. It takes many years to understand yourself, and the pump to get reasonable H1c numbers. My pump (paradigm) has been out of warranty for some time now. Medicare will pay for the D3 and t:slim pump. I have a sample D3 sensor, and really like it! I had no idea people didn't like the latest Medtronic PUMPS/cgms. I've been playing this game for 43 years now. These new pumps and monitors are light years better than what I started with. (multiple shots and using urine to guess your "percentage" of sugar based on the color of the chemical reaction in my test tube) No, it didn't work..at all!

The bolusing on the Omnipod is changing so we can do it from our mobile phones with no PDM this is only the eros ones, not the new Dash type! I 'm also able to use the Dexcom with the Omnipod and like yourself, I love the Dexcom. I agree that the pods are just a little too big but I guess they have to hold that insulin somewhere and for me personly I don't fancy getting knoted up on tubes,, but I was very comfy with it on my arms not too sure in the belly will be ok with me. I managed to do a closed-loop but only for half a day until I got used to it with the Auto basal from AndroidAPS I also have a calculator too and easy to enter all data on mobile once you are all setup which is the hard part with AndroidAPS and Xdrip setup and all went extremely well though :-) I no need to finger prick at all. I only managed on testing one pod for 3 days so not much chance to get fully used to it but I did enjoy the no pricking from Pens :-) but all went well with the Dexcom G6 too in this setup. I'll not on a pump or pod hoping I can be on one very soon so I can test it out even more on a closed-loop :-) Great video on the different pumps so nice to get a feel on what they may or may not be the right pumps for you. I'm not sure so glad of your videos thanks!

T1D for almost 30 years. My previous pump was a Tandem with Dexcom. They are a great pump!! My previous pump to that was a Medtronic 530g. Now I use the Medtronic 670g. The sensor is as or more accurate that Dexcom at this point. Having had previous generations of pumps, the 670g is far more advanced and more accurate than anything I have ever used. My avarage A1C is 6.2 for the last year I have been on the 670g. I think this pump is less work than any other pump as well. You will be happy either which way you go. The only reason I commented is my A1C. The tighter your control the less the complications as you get older. I wish you well and thank you for sharing your videos. Always helpful!!!!!!

Hi Danica ! I have to change my pump (currently on an old Medtronic) and I think about the new Medtronic and the T-Slim. I use Dexcom 5, so maybe the T-Slim could be great. My daughter has been told she has to replace her animas with a T-Slim and she is not happy at all. She hates touch screens and is worried about having to recharge her pump. Her preference is buttons that feel like you have pressed them. She can't swap to the medtronic for two years so she want us to hoard animas supplies and use it anyway.

The Medtronic 670G is great in some ways, but the CGM is lousy. It has a very long or lag time compared to the G6. I had a tslim before and liked in, however, have to wait 2 more yrs ( maybe3), before I can upgrade. So will be getting G6 and used Medtronic til I can get the smaller than slim. More later.

In 1.5 years I have to choose a new pump. It will be between Accu Chek Insight, and the Tandem. The biggest disadvantage of this pump is filling the cartridges. Too much work and a lot of waste. Advantage is of course the connection with the CGM and 300 units. If I will get the Diabeloop, I will choose for the Accu Chek pump (Roche). Otherwise I am choosing for the Tandem.

My teenage son has the Animas Vibe. He still has 11 months left on the warranty. Having that much time left on the warrenty doesn't give us much of a choice for the next 11 months. My son would like the Tslim as well, but we feel we are "stuck" with using the Medtronic till the warranty is up next February. What insurance company is going to agree to get him a different insulin when he can get a good pump for no cost for the next year? So we are trying to stay positive and look at it as he gets a year long trial of the Medtronic pump. If he likes it he will stay with it, if he doesn't like it we will switch to the Tslim.

I have the Medtronic 670G with the Guardian sensor and I started with the 630G. Before a pump I had the Dexcon sensor and found it to be much more accurate but 6 to 8 shots a day got old. Medtronic seems to not listen to the customer and their needs and hard to get them to believe that your transmitter has gone haywire. I think I have the best for me and next year they will have their new improved model. Enjoy your new pump and maybe I can try others some day. Not sure you tried or did anything on the fastacting insulin?

Hi, Danica... my name is Susan Jang and I've been diabetic for almost 43 years. I'm currently using the Animas One Touch Ping which is still under warranty until September of this year but am looking at both the Omnipod and the T:Slim. I want to continue using my Ping as long as it continues to work (even after warranty is up) and I am able to get supplies. So my question is this: You said that your Animas pump is now out of warranty and you decided to go with the T:Slim. Did Tandem ask you to return your Animas? I've seen posts where people say they have had to return it, but I'm wondering if those are people whose warranty was still in place for their Animas pump. It makes sense that they wouldn't want you to have 2 pumps under warranty. So I'm thinking that if I wait until my warranty expires in September, then I wouldn't have to return my Animas pump to Tandem? In the meantime, I'm going to give Omnipod a try for a month under their "Cut the Cord" promotion. Tandem will likely be my next choice, but I will maybe consider Omnipod as a backup and while on vacation. I currently wear my pump in my bra so the fact that Tandem doesn't have a remote is a little bothersome for me since I don't want to have to reach into my bra in a restaurant or while wearing a dress to pull it out to bolus or correct. And I don't love that you charge it since I'm not good with charging my phone! haha Decisions, decisions.....oh the life of a diabetic! Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Susan Jang

I'm not sure if I've commented on any of your other videos or if it was someone else, but I just got a text message my new Tandem pump (Control IQ, I think) will ship out tomorrow. It had previously been rejected due to my C-peptide test not being bad enough, but I'm thinking paperwork went to the wrong place or my endos treatment notes having an influence. I've been on MDI for about 4 years and am excited, but apprehensive, about starting pump therapy. I know I've missed doses in the past if I eat out unexpectedly, etc. One thing I'm curious/concerned about is what happens at night when I go to sleep. I toss and turn constantly! Am I going to have to strap myself in bed so I don't kink the tubing or do you remove it at night? I'm assuming that since Medicaid pays for my Dexcom G6 they're covering this as well, which saves me a ton of $$$$ :) My last A1C a few weeks ago, was a surprisingly amazing (my opinion) 6.2, the lowest I can ever remember it.
