I dont care what anyone says about sprinters I have a 2005 dodge sprinter 2500 which i bought brand new now has 413k miles with slight repairs I changed the injectors on it 8 months ago I change the oil every 10k miles runs like a dream has plenty of power no van can compete with the sprinter plus it's very fuel efficient. On the other hand my dad has a 2013 Mercedes sprinter that's going to clock 400k soon is has def and he has to take it to his buddys shop every 5-6 months to clean the def system but other then that sprinters are the best Van's out there... change my mind

I use WD-40 to dissolve the carbon on my EGR valve. Soft rags and cotton Q-Tips for the clean up.

Great info thank you .Good to hear these Turbos are the highest quality and do not fail . Tackling the turbo overboost code po234 is the last and only code left in a list from when I bought the 05 Sprinter. 375k miles. Ill be using your checklist as how to and the order to go about it .

I have a 2006, 2.7L. I am now able to drive 5 miles before limp mode starts. If I shut off and restart; I get another 5 miles. I have cleaned the EGR, tried the EGR hack, installed new air charge temp sensor. No help. Also have a recall that involves updating software to ECU which may include repairs to air intake and EGR, if necessary. Problem is that I have been to dealer twice, wait 3 hours each time, only to be told that they can't make a connection from their computer to the manufacturer computer; so they can't do the recall. Waiting to hear back from Fiat Chrysler as to a resolution. Any suggestions in the meantime would be much appreciated .

Thanks for your reply. An update. I tried EGR hack and it worked. But I had to get the van to a dealer for a recall. The recall was to update the software for the ECU, so I took the EGR hack out. Mechanic "supposedly" did software update. He test drove it and said it was going back to limp mode. Code said: air intake sensor no good. So I returned the one I just installed and got a new one. No difference. Now I see the inter cooler hose has a 4" gash in it. So Mercedes sends me the entire assembly...upper air intake, the fitting where the air intake sensor and another sensor go, and the lower (inter cooler hose). I installed all. BTW, positive battery cable disconnected while doing this. Left my shop, drove about 1/4 mile and heard what sounded like a backfire. Pulled over restarted and made it home. Popped hood and I see the air intake hose had popped out about a 1/4". I put it back in as the spring clip was not catching well. Restart the vehicle, runs for 15 seconds and shuts off. Check engine light and battery light on. Where do I go from here sir ?

Wow that’s allot of Headaches you just went through, I am sorry to hear that, what you describe sounds like Mass Air flow sensor problem, try unplugging the connector from the mass air flow sensor and then try starting see if it makes a difference, but what you describe how you start it up and it shuts off is a Mass Air flow sensor problem

Update. I walked away from it overnight. Got up this morning and went with the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) Strategy. Somehow the bottom hose on the inner cooler was not connected at all. Obviously my fault.Perhaps the 93 degree heat here in Florida took it's toll on me . Hooked it back up. Runs like a champ. Thank you for your help !!

If you pull the mercedes firmware off the ecu you will see this you cannot fix the code is similar to the Volkswagen emission test it reverts back to the same state

I have a 2008 sprinter 2500 diesel. It broke down yesterday with a loud ticking sound, massive loss of power, to a crawl (all while in drive as its an automatic), revs are limited to 3000, the exhaust smokes grey smoke while i was parked up and reved it hard as it has done this before but not for a year. I do have a o2 sensor code. Could it be a clogged DPF or something else?

Check your air filter too because a dirty plugged filter will cause excessive sooting ! If you're EGR valve is that dirty then I would imagine so would your intake and it's best to clean it with liqui moly ( there's a video on KZbin on how to clean diesel intake using liqui moly )

Use simple green on your filter brake clean will just strip it of the fiber it needs to catch particles! FYI

Yes, it’s most likely dirty or worn out Fuel injectors, but it can be other causes as well

Great video, super informative! Question: I have a 2004 Sprinter, having an issue which I think is EGR. While driving on the highway, I get an acceleration surge (feels like a boost surge), but driving around the city feels fine. I pulled the EGR to clean, and even after cleaning, the turbine opens and closes, but is pretty sticky the last 25% of closing and closes slowly. Then, after reassembling and leaving the EGR unplugged on accident, there's no surge on the highway, but driving around the city there is no power under 2,500 rpm. When I plugged it back in, it drives better than before, but still has the surge on the highway at higher speeds under acceleration. Would you think this is an EGR since it helps the issue when unplugging it?

+Mister Lost's Dirtbag Society yes from what you described I am 90% sure it's EGR because it's such a big difference with it plugged in and unplugged, it does sound like its sticking or opening slowly, what I would do if I was in your spot I would use a spare EGR and Run all the tests again to confirm the problem, but I got extra parts to test this things but unfortunately we all dot have parts to throw at it, question are you getting any codes?

I have a 2005 that I bought in 2012. Turbo seal leaked and dumped oil. Dealer charged me a fortune for a new turbo because I didn't know better. Found out later another shop would have replaced only seal for a hundred bucks.

I have a 2005 sprinter with 410000 miles on it, sometimes when I start it and put it in drive and try to accelerate it is sluggish and black smoke comes out the pipe. I restart and the problem goes away. and when it is shifting , when it gets above 3000 rpm it sounds like I have a exhaust leak . my exhaust system is good . could this be a egr problem ? no codes are showing up.

Hello you cane to the right place I do have allot of advice here, so watch some videos on this topic I am sure it will help you, this is the largest Sprinter source on KZbin, and your problem is an easy one, Turbo Under boost Condition is cause by one thing and that boost leveling somewhere, normally it leeks from top house that goes into intake, and second place it leeks from plastic turbo resonator seam, it’s called Turbo Resonator, I recommend buy a new one and replace it

When I did mine the little servo motor popped off... the 2 bolts that hold the servo on go all the way through the intake castings. I also had security screws on servo (not m10's)...Many Blessings , SMR

Hi Zimaleta, I have check engine light on my Mercedes Sprinter Van. I have changed the egr valve, MAF sensor, Map sensor but the engine light keeps coming on and the limp mode does not go away. It keeps giving me p1400 error and now p1408. Is there something like egr switch over value or egr switch back or solenoid. If there is i cannot find it. Can you help please

Sorry your having this problem, here’s what I found, Error Code P1408 is described as EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) out of self-test range. This means the EGR valves are not functioning properly, causing it to send readings that are outside the set range. This error code is a manufacturer-specific trouble code, meaning it does not apply to all vehicles makes. Rather, it applies only to specific vehicle makes, such as Ford. Specification on the definition, troubleshooting, and repairs still vary from one make and model to another.

P1400 and P1408 are not Mercedes' codes. These 2 codes are OBD2 generic codes. You need a scanner that can read the Mercedes codes, otherwise you will end up misdiagnosing the problem you are having. What is your vehicle?

Good vid but i would never sandpaper a piece of metal and stick it into my intake manifold exhaust gas recirculation hole and let the engine suck metal particles into the combustion chamber that I just sandpapered without spraying it clean with the can of cleaner again... But good vid thanks

No, but there is couple parts that when it gets stuck it will effect heating, one is water pump, let’s say your driving and it’s winter, your heat is on, and all the sudden it’s blowing cold air, look at speedometers heat gage is starting to go to hot, pull over Immediately, you can drive 2 miles tops with no water pump, then your engine will over heat. Problem 2 is with the HVAC unit that’s electronic, it can go bad Problem 3 is another pump that’s under the hood on the left rear of the engine with 3 houses on it. Problem 4 it’s the unit on the right side of engine near the fuel filter for 2004-2006 model 2 water lines There’s other problems but I will be here all day lol explaining

@@ZimaletaMotors no, it's not a dually. 08 3.0. I'll look to see what rearend it has when I'm back in town. It runs somewhere around 2600-2750? rpm's @ 70. I consistently average 22mpg city and 18-20mpg highway, depending on speed obviously.

I had to change EGR, in some cases you can clean it, but my EGR was bad, there is a way to delete EGR but I don’t have time to make that video for now but I will

I unplugged like your video and OMG I finally made it to 80mph on the highway and got 510 miles on a full tank. That was amazing cause I've been stuck at 65mph max. Is it safe to leave it unplugged I did for over a week so I can do the gas test, but want to double check?

You unplugged the EGR? If so you can perminatly bypass it it with a $5 resistor, I got a video on it, no more EGR problems

So I have an 05 Sprinter that I have been working on for a month I now have no codes no lights but the eng chokes out then I get a blast of black smoke with an odd eng noise then it runs fine for a while no hose leakes new turbo with actuator and resonator cleaned egr valve new map and maf sensors any clues.

Yes I have a clue, if it’s choking out, then it might be a problem with turbo veins, they don’t open to let exhaust out, then it opens and lots of black smoke comes out then it runs, I actually just fixed that problem on mine

I have done every thing you have on your videos new turbo and actuator new resonator new map maf and boost pressure sensors cleaned egr new air filter I have no codes or lights just a hesitation then black smoke. Then it will run normal for a while very frustrated I just spent a week on my 2011 fixing it.

Sorry your having this, lol I just went trough it, the hesitation Is caused buy Turbo veins, they are slow to open or get stuck, then when they open black smoke comes out and van is alive again until next exit or light, then sometimes it works good then it does not, so the fix is remove turbo and rebuild it, or buy a new or used turbo, worked for me, hope it helps

+MrFarscape40 thanks, lol it needed some cleaning but believe me I seen it so bad before on a different engine, j had to scrape it off with a screw driver and it was hard as a rock, this in comparison was like dust on EGR, really strange, I hope that was the last of the problem 😃 by the way I cleaned the KNN filter using break cleaner and an Air compressor worked like a charm 😃👍 about the mileage I will test it, I keep a close eye on mileage it's a habit, good or bad I monitor it closely, it's a good indicator of something might be wrong

My friend I am having problem withe engine from 2008 sprinter currently I am disasambling it so I can rebuild it , the problem is my cranshaft pulley bolt does not want to come out any suggestion ?

+Ibrahim Chukadze wow your tackling a big project, but it can be done, yes stuck bolts are a problem my suggestion use E type of sockets for some of the bolts without it, you can strip the bolts easy, when I run into stuck bolts I use heat and PB blaster, sometimes I beat it into submission lol what ever works lol and if the bolt is striped I use a special kit I got from Ervin tools, sometimes it works, good luck with your project, I wish I could give you some better advice, but dealing with stuck bolts inside an Engine is never an easy task, all I can say I wish you luck and if you get the stuck Bolt out let me know what helps

ZIMALETA HOW TO SHOW & UNBOXING it is funny expression, by the way I do drive 2002 golf tdi 1,9 litter disel engine , and it will go in limp mode just like your van and I would loos power , it feels like there is no boost from turbo .. after 1 key cycle it will reset an I get power the strange thing no check engine light or codes ... I am leaning toward sticky wast gate valve ..may be it's is same on your van

+Mason Nesson lol so true, it's funny how sometimes little things can cost you money, lol and I want to keep my money and hopefully people watching get to keep there money, BTW speaking of Crypto Currency I just sold all my positions and made $103.30 after fees on $800 investment so not bad $903 in that Acc now, so now to avoid Fees I created GDAX Acc there's no fees on Limit Trades which is totally awesome, plus I can trade Ahead of time while I sleep, so knowing the price of Lite Coin and Ethereum that I want to pay I set 5 limit orders 3 for Ethereum and 2 for Lite Coin, so I put my Limit price set low like I like to buy it, so when it drops again I can get it cheep, but meanwhile I need to keep an eye on it, it might just reach new highs changing my strategy, I treat this like a Game and so far I am ahead, I hope it grows in next couple of days cause my Bitcoin order for $200 needs to come through then I will sell it making more money and then will transfer it to GDAX and Buy $200 worth of Lite Coin lol

Hey Zimaleta! Love the channel. I made the mistake of running my sprinter with a very dirty air filter... for a while. New air filter and mass air flow sensor in now. It ran so much better after these changes! Thought I was all clear. But sputtering is back. It's like the cylinders have to much fuel in them at low revs (black smoke) and then it miss fires as i accelerate and it struggles to climb in RPM while misfiring. Then turbo kicks in and cylinders clear with black smoke and i'm up to speed quickly and the engine seems to work properly after that. Like turbo resisting my telling it to spool. If my glow plugs are very old could I be not using a cylinder for combustion until the temperature gets high enough? I will clean my EGR like you recommended. I will replace intake air temperature sensor. I will check turbo hoses for leaks. I will change fuel filter: I went very cold in mammoth lakes this winter and it made my fuel lines crack. If you have any suggestions I would be very grateful!

Thanks, actually my friend I am having same problem right now as you explain but it’s the turbo unfortunately, your turbo vanes are damaged and they don’t open properly causing turbo lag at low speed then it accelerates better at faster speeds and you see black smoke
