One of the best PB videos I've ever seen. As a long-time tennis player, I wish I would have had someone like Jordan around when I made the transition to PB. The adjustments Ian had to make were exactly the ones I had to puzzle out ... open stance volley? That's crazy man! :)

SO great to see Ian get coached and to see his interest in the sport! I’m a 4.5 tennis player making the transition and this is easily the most helpful video I’ve found. Ian’s a GREAT coach and our tennis levels and thought processes are very similar (obviously, cause I’ve taken so much of his advice!). The silliest part of the whole pickleball/tennis thing is this simple question, “is it fun?” Both of the games are SUPER fun and TOTALLY different strategically. Are we mad at ping pong players?? No! 😂 Pickleball is so stupid fun. And I’m still playing tennis. And ping pong. 😂 You got a new subscriber!

Anyone who grew up playing tennis at a high level at a young age SHOULD adapt to this game fast. Footwork and preparation is thr thing that you work years and years on and once engrained, that doesn’t go away. The mechanics of slightly changing your swing from a longer stroke to a smaller, quicker, and using more of an open stance, is pretty simple….even if never picking up a paddle before.

Looking forward to the doubles gameplay. As a coach and teacher I find that one lesson wouldn't be enough to raise a player's level unless they were already at the threshold and needed minor adjustments. The three facets to learning; attaining knowledge (knowing what to do and how to do it), the ability to perform (applying the knowledge), and finally performing in competition (consistency in application while competing) requires a lot of time. Partly to make the new skills a habit, partly to make it so you don't have to "think" about it every time. For example a noob like me: I had to learn to try to return deep so to keep the serving team on the defensive (and allow me to get to the kitchen). Then I had to learn to return deep (and lower if I could). THEN I have to keep telling myself on serve receive to do so and practice doing it so I can FINALLY do it consistently in a game. Thanks for the videos Briones! Keep up the great work!

Real good stuff. And it really amplifies how helpful having a tennis background is. It can accelerate your pickleball skill development x100. I have a tennis background. Nothing advanced, but I played a ton when I was younger and I was decent. Played a fair amount of ping pong too. Pickleball was a natural transition for me... picked it up quick. But this video is FANTASTIC for hitting on developing solid fundamentals when learning important techniques in the game. Such good info... as are all of your videos. One thing to note here 9:45, you can anticipate a ball landing in the kitchen and step in before the ball bounces, the rule is you can't hit a ball while standing in the kitchen or on kitchen line unless that ball has bounced in the NVZ. No matter what though, you can not volley a ball while in the kitchen.

It's actually great to see (as I already know personally) how much tennis players bring to the court in Pickleball. Buy I still think that, even though minor adjustments can be beneficial, tennis players (who continue to play tennis and pickleball) should not abandon their years of training and dedication to good footwork and core rotation as it seems all pickleball instructors recommend. I'm finding pickleball singles fun as long as I'm not coerced into abandoning the skills that made me a decent tennis player. We only need to see the play of Jack Sock on the pickleball court to experience how effective tennis skills can be. Interestingly, I'd love to see someone who came from only pickleball adapt to a tennis court as quickly as tennis players can adapt to pickleball. Now that is the video I want to see. Great video from both players.

5.5-6.0 ex college old man here. AA doubles player in the 90's and retired tennis director that's interested in starting to play some PB. Any good advice??...to me it looks like a high level doubles player in tennis would transition great into pickleball. Enjoyed watching the lesson. You've obviously played some high level tennis, yourself, in the past. Very easy to see that.

Fun watching Ian evolve in 8 minutes what takes most people 8 weeks to learn. Most impressive was Jordan modifying and changing the instruction quickly to adapt to the fast learning curve. All coaches should notice that Jordon was very selective with the instruction he gave Ian, only feeding him tips that were most helpful to get him to the next level, and not just everything he needed to know.

Great purpose on the material. I got a question, I am switching from tennis and I am quite effective on hitting the ball heavy, hitting lots of passing shots but it's true, it's mostly 3.5-4.0 level where most of the people hit the ball soft. Which paddle you recommend and which maintains a good power, spin, and pop and good control as well. I am trying 16mm paddles, no issues on power and spin as I can accelerate the paddle easily, the issue is on the dinks and dropshots, I feel the paddle dead, currently I'm playing with Engage MX 6.0 and EX 6.0 Pro but I am getting a CRBN1 as well.

Hey Jordan, do you have anything less intensive training, other than the 2 day class (like a 1 to 3 hr class)? I'm not planning on doing any tournaments at this point, I just want to improve my shots, not pick up any bad habits and improve game play tactics. Right now I'm just playing rec games and I want to get better.
