Great content, Cody! You've got a good process of thinking about your project's infra and what it depends on.

I think as a way to increase the view of how things works on every level. Rust is a pretty good choice. It works from embedded system, games, cryptocurrency, to even a bit of web frontend. The path to learning can be pretty time consuming, but I think you'll never feel bored. This can be a good or bad thing depending on individual goals. But it's nice that by learning one language you can build literally anything.

Hey Cody, have you tried WebStorm IDE? If so, what are your thoughts?

Open source gains are legendary. At first it takes a while to understand a project but once you do the learning becomes super fun.

hi cody i hope you are doing well, am a "big" fan of supabase because i like postgres, what i want to know is how you do authorization on your backend, what tools do you use to governs data access for big projects, like those at the company you work at, say for example you had to write an entire backend for a banking application and also say that the app needs to have features like granular access controls. also how do you generally authorization rules? Thanks

we do role based auth. For example, a user hits an endpoint, our endpoint checks the user's token exists and is valid, then we get the user id and role from that token, then we check the role against a map of permissions, then if they DON'T have access to that endpoint or feature, we throw an exception and return a 401 status code.

Their approach is really different from what you can see on other Baas like Supabase or Appwrite which make it really interesting

I rly like the Prime opinion on Rust/Go, which I 100% agree with. So the Rust is amazing, very nice lang, you feel like a genius writing it... but like each time I finish my personal project with Rust, and then go to do some Go at work.... the Go is like so much more productive, simple, and require so less thinking (which is not a bad one). One way of doing shit vs 10000x ways in Rust. And go just works, always, i have everything i need in liek a matter of min, versus Rust, where something new occurs i need to dive through rust docs, async traits, blocking operations.....

It's not that bad once you get used to it, also the code you are checking is a little advanced, so it gives a harsh first impression, and your vsc showing all the types makes the code really hard to read @@WebDevCody I am always suggesting to try to write a simple api server in rust, cos it's showing a new ways of thinking and it's a perfect language to dive into memory management of code :) You will always bring something out of it, even if you will not like it.
