Now that you have 6 research chambers, if you use the soil centrifuge to make clay and then smelt them into ceramic, each piece is worth 300 bytes and only takes 3- 1/2 minutes to process. A boost mod along with the wide takes about a minute to fill 8 canisters. I find if you're short a few thousand research and itching to unlock it, it's about the quickest way to get those bytes.

Rock Zalt the little pieces that come from popping plants also research into 3-4 times as many points as just using F to research them. Additionally almost every mushroom seed I've planted on the surface, near my base, grew a research booger or pod under it, acouple of which gave well iver 2,200 points

Also, you can get through to the center of the planet with the drill mod, you don't need the drill that has to be mounted (if you make diamond you can make drill mod 3 which can dig anything AFAIK)

Having base at teleportation deal would definitely be handy :P Also Iron is definitely priority, that way you can also get shredder to destroy all the useless stuff. And With trading platform you can trade scrap for stuff.

He has a $10,000 computer. Sounds like you need to turn down some settings, update your graphics driver, or might be having a graphics card issue. This game doesn't take a ton of resources to play.

Go to the center of the planet that you are on and get astronium. One astronium is worth 1 000 bites and the take 2 min to research.

Don't think you can ever have a perfectly flat base that looks good. Because the planets are all spherical, a flat base would stick up on at least one side and just be fugly. What you want to do is have a ring/circular base that follows the curve of the planet in some way. True flat just doesn't work in this game unless you make it raised onto a plateau (like if you expand around tesseracts.. which you should do anyways for easy teleporting between worlds).
