I love how sentimental & emotional Bri is... I think many people feel the same way about their animals. A portion of why we can eat our own cows/pigs/chickens is that we have been habituated from childhood to eat beef, pork, & drums so we can more readily disassociate ourselves. But Goats, rabbits, horses, ducks, turkeys, pigeon, quail, deer are all animals we no longer regularly eat and so it's harder for us to "accept" butchering and eating them... Plus when you add the thought of what if we were the slaughter of another species, we'd be up in arms, lol!

We eat goat a lot. I raise goats for milk for me, and cows for milk for everyone else, cheese, and beef. Goat is very lean, but fries up well in butter...but we like the sear on it best when cooked in coconut oil. I also use Montreal Steak seasoning in the burgers. Low and slow for roast, or use the instant pot. Love your family.

What you were saying makes perfect sense to me Bri. I think when you raise your own meat, you are less likely to waste, and you appreciate them and their sacrifice to feed your family more than just going and buying meat with no emotional connection. I think it's more eye opening when you raise and process your own meat. 💜 I love your guys channel and I love how well you and Art communicate, I hope to be like that in my relationship, so itll last. My husband and I found a butcher that offered goat meat and we drove two hours one way to try several meats we thought would work on a homestead. We tried rabbit, quail and goat. I do not like rabbit or quail, my husband liked rabbit and found the quail a pain to eat and would not mess with it again. We both LOVED goat!!! We decided on raising Kinder goats, they eat half of what a Nubian does and produce 3/4 the amount of milk with a higher butterfat content. They are a dual-purpose goat. They are smaller than a Nubian which is good for us as we are getting older and do not want to get knocked over by a goat.

I think people forget though all things that are born eventually die. A natural death isn't often a pain-free one. For me even though I love all of the animals I raise goats rabbits chickens pigs in the end I know they're all going to die. I'd rather be able to love my animals from the minute they're born and help them ease into their next life while not wasting the life they've given. When they died of a natural death oftentimes in agony it doesn't feel very respectful to the life they've lived. I know some people think that the fact that I know my food and I'm still able to eat it makes me callous but honestly I think it gives me a much more appreciation for the food that I consume.

Our motto here at the dairy, borrowed from a goat breeder - Donna Geiser, and that is... "We milk the best and Eat the rest!" My husband loves goat meat and I enjoy it. The hardest part of the harvest, for me, is to get their pajamas off. (skinning) After that, they are just meat. Hubby does not do the harvesting, but he is a great helper, especially at the dinner table.

Years ago when we lived on the farm, my Step Daddy and a friend roasted a goat and put BBQ Sauce on it. I did not know what it was and they did not tell me until after I was done eating it. It was really good. And then back in 1995, I went done to Baha Mexico to be at my oldest Sister's wedding. They served Goat and we put it on Corn Tortillas. It was really good. God Bless Y'all.

Goat meat is so tasty! We think it tastes sweeter than grass fed beef. We had an in tact male processed but they put him down in his own yard so it was super low stress. Perfect meat.

The look on brees face was priceless. She totally had the "oh you want to fight fight don't you." And then utter relief when she found out it wasn't hers.

Absolutely nothing mean about it whatsoever. He didn't intend for her to think he killed HER goat...she just jumped to that conclusion all on her own. She'd already told him before that goat meat was her favorite meat!
