So what you are trying to say is that the center of lift is not at the center of mass but rather much more to the front. wich makes the plane pitch up.

The center of lift was above the center of mass so it pitched up to try and raise the center of mass. Since the motion of the object is already forward, and the center of lift is created by drag that massively outweighs the center of mass's mass. Not to mention the lift to drag ratio being -x=+y and the propulsion being +x^2. Tldr; Basically the drag slows the top while lifting the contraption and the propulsion pulls it forward from beneath. There were a few similar designs that put the wings in front and the rest dragging behind the middle.

Ok, revisit this one: -Smaller scale, the wings in the original seemed almost flat, so try just making it flat and make the backsection very thin -try not to make it too long -if you make the shapes, don't fill them, at leat not in the back -The lift is stronger with more speed especially when it's that low on the vehicle, so either put it higher up, or which I would recommend, limit yourself to a propeller. -Dont put wheels in the back, adds weight -Put things like pitch and roll in the front or put the hinges under the front wings and add the back wings to them (back wings in the back connected to hinge in front with one of these frame lines) You don't have to spend hours with it, but I would love to see this again, if you don't want to, it's your choice, but it's content

The Gerhardt Cycloplane wasn't one of the first "successful" airplane to fly, come-on, they used aircrafts for the whole WW1 a decade before.... The Cycloplane was the first "successful" airplane fully human-powered.

I think the reason it pitched up is because the propeller (and thrusters) are underneath the lifting surface's center of mass. It has upward torque from underneath. So maybe if you move the engine up a bit it won't have that much torque to pitch the plane up.

It could only pitch up because the lift was higher than the center of mas and was forwards creating so much drag that it in theory would continually pitch up if not enough weight was added below...

The original one was even lighter though, original ideas were made of birch or balsa an aluminum or tin bike pedal gear, chain, and gear for the drive. And Rice Paper wings. They were still developing concepts for lift and control.

it works because when it was made it was a wood frame with a cloth covering. The extra wings countered the pilot's weight. Because a person weighs 150-180 lbs. and the whole plane weight about 50 the extra lift was needed

Those old designs are so cool, You should do other early planes designs. This could work, this was a point of balancing the craft. You can see on the video that they had controls on the wing, elerons. You should learn a bit more about flight dynamics. Multiple wing isn't a terrible design, it's just that you have to put the CG in the right place.

However high mounted the main wings are, the lift force vector practically goes along the vertical axis. Threfore the lift is not the main culprit of the pitch anomaly. But the drag is, as everyone's intuition tells. So blame the thick profile of the main wings' cross section which produces a punitively expensive air resistance (with no aerodynamic gain) of which the line of action runs too far both from the center of mass and from the line of prop thrust. Each one of the main wings projects a large area along the longitudinal axis which is comparable to the horizontal stabiliser's effective area. It's like a bunch of air breaks installed crazy high above the fuselage. The largest factor to induce that abnormal nose-up pitching behavior. Though no access to this software, let me dare to predict that simple flat plate main wings with 0 or a little angle of attack could help much. If you want to go without standard ailerons, the most battle-proofed configuration is a combination of dihedral and rudder. See how the yaw control is accompanied by a corresponing direction of roll as its consequence. → kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2qxcnWCa9qMnK8 At least one family of real life manned aircraft also deploys this scheme, that is "Flying Flea". → en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mignet_Pou-du-Ciel Doing rolls with independent left and right elevators is iefficient because the moment arms are too short. I doubt Main Assembly developers have done or even have plans to do an airfoil characteristic implementation. Given the free-style building capability of this sandbox game, it would be hell difficult to describe and might be prone to unpredictable artifact which ruins the plausibility of objects' behavior. If I'm not wrong, a flat wing wins as of now and for a while until devs hire a several supercomputers and start to offer server-side heavy processing.

P.S. Putting aerodynamics aside, the prop thrust creates up pitching until steady speed is built up as Newton's first law asserts (when applied to rigid bodies). If it annoys you, mounting the motor looking at a tad downward would help. The tail wheel is so large that taking-off capable attitude is almost impossible on the ground. If Main Assembly does not provide smaller wheels, remove it and let the tail just skid. A gentle acceleration until the vertical stabilizer comes functional with some speed could avoid a taxi spinning. It would be nice if the devs expose some anisotropic friction feature (a sled like characteristic) at users' disposal.

Lift is created by the *a*symmetry of a wing's profile; symmetric profile creates no lift... Likely part of the problem.

The wings need to be longer compared to the chassis, there isnt enough surface area to generate lift. The idea behind the multi wing was to be able to have more stabilized flight and lift off, sadly adding more wings instead of expanding the wing, raised the center of weight over the chassis thus collapsing on itself.

they didn't have lighter components then, nor did they have that much drag consciousness. They could achieve less speed and thus had to resort to multiple wings for lift. It's NOT a dumb idea, or a dumb design. It was tailored exactly like what people of that era could come up with.
