Paul demonstrates how tempting it is to use human methods to bring people to God instead of God's method which is the preaching of the gospel. (I Corinthians 1:18-31)

Could you do a talk on 1Cor5 - the sins that lead to death? Particularly REVILING. I think the church and our society are full of it! From what I read it is 'putting people down' , 'speaking contemptuously' and it leads to violence and anger and death. Words do hurt and kill - the ones we love the most!

Paul does not refer to sins that lead to death in Corinthians, John does in 1John 5:16-17. This type of sin can either be a sin one refuses to repent of or the sin of rejecting Christ as Savior. Reviling, as you say, is a destructive sin causing much harm but like all sins can be forgiven through repentance in prayer for the believer (1John1:7-9) or repentance and baptism for the non-Christian (Acts 2:36-38). - MM

how about 1Cor.1:14-17 - there is some baptism ideas. Please explain that. Why Paul ""Christ didn't send me to baptize...". Baptism is the moment we receive the salvation. ????
@bibletalktv
@bibletalktv 5 жыл бұрын
In this passage Paul is commenting on a situation taking place in the Corinthian church where different individuals were creating division by aligning themselves with different teachers or leaders like Paul or Peter or even Jesus Himself saying that because they were exclusive followers of certain leaders, they had superior position or knowledge. Many claimed that their baptism at the hands of certain leaders gave them prestige in some way. Paul claims that he did baptize a few of them and is glad that it’s only a few since no one could accuse him of creating discord or boasting about the number of followers he had baptized. He says that he didn’t come to baptize (meaning he didn’t play the game of building up a following based on the number of people he baptized). His role as a preacher was to preach the gospel, not collect followers. Baptism is part of the gospel (how we respond in faith) but not the purpose of the gospel which is to proclaim the good news that Jesus dies to pay the penalty for men’s sins, and resurrected to prove that He was indeed the Son of God and His sacrifice was acceptable to God. Those who believed this good news were to express their faith by repenting of their sins and being baptized (immersed in water - Acts 2:36-38). All those who respond in this way are saved (Mark 16:15-16). - MM

Agreed. The Jews knew/know the Hebrew Bible inside and out, in it’s original language. That’s exactly why we never have/never will accept Christianity. Because there is nothing in the Hebrew Bible that has anything to do with Jesus. The basic tenants of the Christian faith are absent from the Hebrew Bible. The only people that accepted Christianity (Paul’s version) where non-Hebrew speaking gentiles.

BibleTalk.tv Mike we never hear from these other men first hand. Only from Paul first hand. In Acts, Peter’s story fades away and the book becomes only about Paul’s ministry. If we can see in Paul’s writings (Romans 9-11 for example) that he misappropriated and changed verses from the Hebrew Bible from which he quotes, he really cannot be trusted. Paul’s self assertion that he is a “Pharisee of Pharisees” is problematic for many reasons. Just because Paul says something doesn’t mean it is true... Why would G-d change his medium of communication from Hebrew, the original Holy Language, to that of Greek?
@bibletalktv
@bibletalktv 6 жыл бұрын
A couple of things assumed here: Hebrew is not a holy language in the sense that Muslim's believe that the language in which the Koran is written is holy. It is a mode of communication, an ancient one used to communicate the mind of God but not one that has inherent spiritual value in and of itself. If this was the case why would the Jews create the Septuagint? As to the witness of the Apostles and their first-hand experience, see 1John 1:1-3. - MM
@DH-kl3ob

Mike I think it goes the same as far as assuming Hebrew does not have inherent spiritual value. This couldn't be farther from the truth. The Hebrew language has intense spiritual meaning for many reasons. And yes, we do not accept Greek or Arabic as the Holy Tongue, which follows that we don't accept either Christianity or Islam. The Jews never needed to create the Septuagint (which, contrary to popular Christian understanding, was only of the Torah, not the Prophets/Writings). The Jews were asked to create it by the Greeks. In fact we have a fast day in light of this, because it is a day of mourning when this translation occurred. 1 John 1 makes a great case for Judaism. Because whoever wrote 1 John (which is anonymous), is trying to convince the reader that they heard/saw...some kind of personal revelation. Paul does this many times over throughout his letters. He says something to the effect of, "Jesus told me such and such, trust me!" So you put your full faith in trust in this one person...Judaism is different. Judaism's foundation is NATIONAL revelation. Exodus 19-21. Deuteronomy 4:32-35. There was no convincing necessary, because the entire nation heard G-d speak. Christianity, and Islam, and every other world religion, is based on one person's revelation..."I had a personal encounter with Jesus/god, just trust me what I'm telling you." The question is, why do you trust Paul, when he clearly is re-engineering the Hebrew Bible to fit his personal theology. Don't forget, Paul's letters came prior to the Gospels, an astounding fact most Christians are unaware of.

Danny I am wondering if what you are saying is true then what would be Paul's motivation for telling the Corinthians to worship Jesus instead of him (and other men)? Saul was a Jew who hated Jesus and Christians, so what could make him change his mind but the power of God? I do believe that Paul heard from God much like Moses and other prophets of the OT who explained personal revelations to the people. He definitely was not paid. Also, why would a God who created language force everyone to learn the same language? Unless you believe gentiles should not and cannot be saved, which the New Testament refutes. Not trying to start a debate but some things to think about.
