just imagine SERIOUSLY asking a male artist "are you secretly a woman?" it's crazy women tolerated this kind of bullshit for decades, men can be lucky we dont go on the street burning cars
@hansmemling231111 ай бұрын
Depends on the artist though. Bands like one direction of nsync also got stupid questions while a female artist like Joan baz or Joni Mitchell wouldn’t. What’s the difference? One makes sappy music that isn’t meant to be consumed too seriously and the others make serious music. When a woman makes serious music like say a Nicoh or a Patti Smith interviews will have a different dynamic and like of questioning.
@The-Growroom11 ай бұрын
Michael Jackson was asked this question many times. He was "accused" of homosexuality (mind you, in a time where being gay was halfway a crime), then when he said "Well I'm not gay but so what if I was?" and donated a ton of money to support for AIDS patients he was accused of bestiality and secretly being a woman. And we all know what he was finally accused of in the end. The "male equivalent" isn't a hypothetical
@shubbadubba9 ай бұрын
@@hansmemling2311 Yeah, but what defines who makes "serious music" vs. "sappy music"? Who decides that? These groups you mentioned, 1D, Nsync, and other similar groups aren't taken seriously because their fanbases are generally majority teenage girls. Joan Baz and Joni Mitchel don't. So again it just comes down to misogyny - even when male artists aren't being taken seriously, it is because of misogyny and patriarchy, because men, and as an extension, society, don't deem that artist's work "good enough", "important enough", - so the statement still stands - men are lucky women don't go on the street burning cars.
@hansmemling23119 ай бұрын
@@shubbadubba the distinction between sappy and serious music is very easy to make. There are so many women making amazing serious music and everyone takes them serious. To name some names I didn't yet: Haim, Warpaint and Austra. Read the comments under their videos and read their interviews and the types of questions they get. You'll see it's worlds apart from any pop music. You sound salty that you don't have more depth in your taste than what is heard on the radio and instead of just accepting that your taste is being laughed at by certain groups you overthink and decide it's the Patriarchy. It isn't. Cher is taken pretty seriously, Celine Dion as well. Both make sappy music but it's serious enough to not be ridiculed too much. It just depends on how close they are to sappy or to serious on a sappy to serious spectrum. It has nothing to do with gender.
@shubbadubba9 ай бұрын
@@hansmemling2311 It has everything to do with gender. None of those artists you mentioned have predominant teenage girl fanbases. It's a known thing that pretty much every interest teenage girls enjoy end up being ridiculed or not being seen as "serious". Even artists like Taylor Swift aren't seen as "serious enough" despite arguably being so (and I say that as someone who isn't even a Swifty). It is patriarchy, and unfortunately you not recognizing that doesn't make it not so, or else a lot of things in this world would be much less fucked up.

Lady Gaga let people think she was trans for attention. Many many times and even claimed she was born a man. And then she came out as NOT TRANS. And then people thought she might be lesbian or at least bisexual and she let that happen for MORE attention. Then came out as straight. What lady Gaga is, is a fuckin Genius marketing strategizer. Whether she cares about the community or not she only used it in the beginning to launch her career. She wanted nothing more than to be famous and rich growing up and she def knew she would be even when people doubted her because she knew she would figure out who to manipulate and what community to appropriate for attention.
@flazeda87432 жыл бұрын
@@Foxxx2017 Lies and trials of intents. When did she "came out as straight"? She said on RDR she wasn't gay ( which is logical since she's also into dudes and was always singing about it ) but that doesn't makes her straight. And she didn't "let people think she was lesbian or bi" she made her second hit, Poker face, about being bi and repeated it on WWHL 4 years later and never changed her word on that. Also for once a famous woman wasn't acting defensive or bothered by trans rumors which was refreshing af but of course some folks will say she did it for attention as you throw negative assumptions in doubt when you dislike someone... You make it sounds like if the claim she was born a man wasn't obvious trolling to people hating on the idea but rather serious statement like c'mon lol... There's a reason if folks laught it off seing she was clearly joking with the "huge donkey Dick" comment said in an over-serious way. 😂 Also for a marketing genius she sure had some flop eras and moments messing up her image so if you want to talk about marketing queens in music let's discuss Adele, Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Taylor Swift etc cause those are the ones following a PR plan to gain and preserve success. Not blaming them since it's smart, just saying Gaga's not really fitting the marketing genius always pulling the strings description you made.

I still love her so much. She was the very first celebrity I started to look up to back then, when her carreer was just starting. I watch videos like these from time to time, and It always reminds me why I admire her and how I never regreted (and never will) supporting her and listenning to her music. She's ikonic, tallented, she's unapologetically herself...

People say shes ahead of her time, but I think she was at the perfect time. Music was just becoming something that expressed everyone's niche emotions, not just emotions they all feel. Lady Gaga changed the game to what it is now, her bravery to be herself and make her art is what led a lot of artists to become who they are, and to make what they want.

The fact so many people are unaware of the actual impact Gaga's word and posture towards "the Gays" affected the lives of millions, gave rights to millions and started millions of conversations that never had been started before. She ALWAYS standed for the gay community, she always will, and she was legitemely trashed a little at start for that. Not as much as people like Cher or Madonna, or even Britney did, but she still got a lot for it and kept raising the bar. Gaga IS the GAY ICON of the 2010's people like it or not. So no, she's not an ally, she is the REAL mother. Everyone else pop stans are calling mother comes from the OG mother, gaga... the mother monster. Paws up was a literal stance for the gays, not just the fanbase. C'mon now. This is common sense and actual pop culture that needs to be properly told. Don't discret what she did to us P-L-E-A-S-E. I'll be forever thankful to her like I'm never gonna be to anyone else in this world cus she gave me the strenght to be who I am today. Actually is. Thank you gaga.

The transphobic comments during interviews were so persistent for half of her career. I mean she didn't care and obviously ate them up but just like damn if she really was Trans... what sort of torment would she have experienced. This is a glimpse of what being a Trans woman is like, the persistent invasive questions, degradation, personal attacks on femininity, depictions as a "disturbed" promiscuous person, objectification/fetishization, unwanted spotlight, constant dissection of the mind and body, emphasis on genitalia and the binary, and so much more.

I find it so interesting how she evolved from employing sunglasses as an intimation tactic, to using an unnervingly casual attitude while wearing extreme couture, to now where she can wear a white suit and high-bun and everyone's necks break when she enters the room. I'm as proud as I possibly can be of her in the position I've watched her grow from.
